Description
In my main story, the world is quite different. The story takes place 70-80 years from now. Monarchies and dynasties have made a reappearance in most countries, the military is much more involved with everything, including the citizens' lives, many parts of the U.S. are poor and the cities are frivolous and extravagant, and there are more factories in the U.S. (old industrial-like factories). Child labor has also made a reappearance, ages 10 and up have to work in the factories, 16 years and under work for 8 hours, anyone older works for ten hours, sometimes more. The poor (men, women, children, and the elderly) work in the factories- it is low paying and it requires little experience. Going to school is much more expensive and it is easier to enter military service. For the children who cannot afford to go to school, they are required to work in the factories or start military service.

Aidan was born into a poor family, his father died when he was 5 and he has a younger sister, they were raised by a single mother. All of them work in the factory and his mother sometimes works a second job so they all have enough to eat. In the story he is 16 and eventually goes on 17, so he's been in the factories for 6 years. This has caused Aidan to have asthma, back problems and weak ankles. It's also why he's rather thin. But he is extremely mentally strong, always thinking on the bright side and having a positive attitude (as you guys know already), even though he's not smiling here. From the day a child turns ten and begins work in the factory they have a number permanently tattooed onto their right arm, it's their work number and it helps the factory owner keep track of the employes.

The factory that Aidan was working in was burned down, most likely by a German spy. This was how Ember and Aidan met. Ember luckily happened to be around when the factory caught fire and when he saw the firemen struggling to hold back a screaming woman (Aidan's mom) and a young girl, Ember rushed into the burning building to find the child. Aidan was terrified and he was losing consciousness from all the smoke and his asthma. Ember managed to find him but barely alive and by the time he found the way out Aidan's heart has already stopped. Ember was able to resuscitate him and he left the firemen to make sure he was alright. He waited around a little while longer and watched as Aidan slowly came back to life. Aidan was only able to catch a glimpse of Ember as he left the scene. Ember didn't want anything more to do with the child.
After Aidan recovered from minor burns and stuffy lungs, he entered the military (at age 16) to fight for his country and to try and find the man who saved his life.

And he does.

Well that description was WAY longer than I had planned. I got a little carried away. So that's a little more insight to my story, which has no title and will maybe, MAYBE, one day be written.
I had finished this the other day but I was to lazy to upload it :/
If you didn't notice, much of story is inspired by The Hunger Games, and the book Legend by Marie Lu.
And as you guys know Aidan and Ember eventually developed a strange little friendship, they are NOT gay with eachother though! Ember is very much straight.
Aidan is basically the second main character.
