Description
My concept art for the wonderful Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast film coming out in 2017. This design really started out as a silly “what if” idea about the placement of her spout and handle but I actually went with it and carried the design to completion. I really love the idea in the stage musical that rather than being instantly turned into objects, the castle servants gradually become objects so that they still retain some form of humanity. It just would seem silly to me if they would try to make the live action film exactly like the animated one (why have two basically-the-same films instead of two somewhat-similar films?).

She was Mrs. Potts? Actually that would make a lot of sense, I read that in the play version the servants turned into objects over time so most of the time we see them holding items to give the illusion they are half human half objects walking around the castle.

In one of the old versions of the story that I read, the Beast's servants were invisible, not household objects. People being turned into household objects works okay in an animated film, but if they try to do the same in a live action film, most of the characters will be CGI, which is really just more realistic 3D animation.
They should come up with something else to happen to the servants.
Anyway, the spout and handle look ridiculous on this dress, but the teapot lid works surprisingly well as a cap. And the rest of the outfit is lovely.

I've read some versions of the story and yeah, the original one had the servants be invisible. I've also read once that they were also turned into beasts. I think the objects-as-servants is exclusively Disney, so it makes sense that they'd do it again for the live action film, but I wish they would go the route of the stage musical (i.e., sort of like this design I did here) rather than make them 3d versions of the characters in the animated film. Do we really need two versions of the same movie that are basically the same? Like what purpose does that serve? None at all.
Yeah the spout and handle are really meant to be a joke. I was considering the possibilities of making the spout and handle her arms (a la the stage musical) but then I thought it would be silly if they were just attached to her dress. Maybe (minus the spout and handle) this is how Emma Thompson will look as the restored Mrs. Potts at the end of the film!

I have to agree with you that it's pointless to have a remake that brings nothing new to the story. Why bother? That's my major gripe with Disney's live action remake of Cinderella.

You already know how much I love this! But I gotta say! The pattern in this are so beautifully done!
I think the films will look different but they will probably still have somewhat recognisable designs but i'm sure it wont be like some really good cosplays

Aw, thank you so much Dimitri!!! I feel so honored by your sweet words! I had a lot of fun designing the pattern! I looked at antique tea pots and tried to replicate the style
Yeah, I think the film might look a bit different but this is how I would want it to look in an ideal world. Hopefully they'll do some really clever things (and not just try to copy the animated film lol).
