Description
*3/23 EDIT: THIS IS THE LAST TIME I SWEAR! After working on Buster's flowing trenchcoat, I finally got the hang of long floaty cloth/hair physics. Here you see the very last edit to Tomoe's run. Of course I ended up cleaning it up and adding more highlights to better match the rest of her sprites too. I think I'm finally happy with it.Tomoe's finished run animation for Project: Rudra. I didn't change too much, but I did end up redoing her hair. It seemed a little stiff before. I hope it looks better now (or I'll end up fixing it again). Take a look at the previous versions below:
If you'd like to learn more about Project: Rudra, you can read all about it on my Patreon or just ask me right here as I'm always happy to talk about it. Any support you can provide goes a long way to helping me finish! Also if you have any ideas for Patreon incentives that would interest you enough to donate, let me know!

Nice, solid, well colored... I like it!
Can't wait to see if this game will become a reality. It looks like it'll be fun to play. I know visually it will be awesome! Not a lot can beat hand drawn animation, amiright?

I posted a gameplay video a while back. A lot of the mechanics are already set in Unity. Kickstarter in the coming months.
Also yes, I love playing games with hand drawn animation

Well SAI is just for clean lineart, the animation is done in photoshop. Though you'd be better off learning with flash as it's more user friendly. Photoshop simply has a timeline that lets you use photoshop layers. I assume any school teaching 2D animation now will have special software specifically for it too.

I have been using toonboom harmony 12; I did not know Photoshop had that feature. Thats pretty cool.

I used a version of toonboom before. Dont think it had animation tools in it. Good to know.

neat animation i just think the old hair looks better. because this here looks a bit like 2 tentacles. it also is 10-15cm shorter than in the other animations
i really love your animations :3

Thanks! I've redone her hair in this animation so many times, it could always happen again...

its just my opinion:
this on the left is the best hair it could be just a bit longer

it's just that hair doesn't flow like that. I don't have a good reference so I went for something similar to Zero from Mega Man X.

i think her hair length is between knee and feet, nearly to the ground. i love that hair length X3

Looks great! Awesome drawings and looks lovely with the shading!
I think it feels a little floaty because you haven't got a frame where the foot connects flat with the floor after she strides, or needs an extra frame to hold it a little, but it looks like she makes nearly makes contact with the floor with her heel, and then it is already sliding backwards to continue the cycle. But I realize this is old work and you don't need to go back to it.
But good work.

I'm actually pretty happy with it. Since she's running quickly, she's mostly on her toes. It's similar to Angel's run from King of Fighters. That said, you're right about having the foot flat on the ground for most runs and especially walking. I think this is the one character in the game who ignores that rule.

Ah, I see now, yes she does do that.
Then maybe its just a timing issue, that perhaps it just goes a fraction too face for the eye to register it. The leg seems to stick when the leg is at the back at the end of the stride (it could be the loop loading that causes it) but I think the timing of where the leg goes from being stretches to raising up should be the timing used for the leg being planted on the toes.
It's still great work and passable as it is, and obviously no one else has nitpicked at it so it's nothing major. Just thought I would give some honest critique as sometimes in animation we need it, even when we don't change things, it's just something to think about for our next projects.

Yeah, I would much rather people nitpick my work than praise it. Even if I disagree, it makes me take a second look at something and keep an eye out for it in later works. Thanks again.

with clothinglike that you'd think her breasts would have a bit of motion to them rather than just remaining as solid assets attached to her chest. Doesn't have to be much. (just a thought anyways, this coming from a concept artist)

there is a very subtle bounce, but yeah it's pretty much unnoticeable in motion. Since she's leaning forwards and moving fast, I don't think they would bounce up too high anyways. It looks a bit off in this animation, but in-game it actually works just fine. Also, this game takes place in the future so bra technology has improved substantially!
Thanks for the feedback.

Looks amazing! The hair looks much more fluid and natural, good job! I would love it more if the boobs bounced a little bit. Right now they look too stiff.

It's good if you're doing frame by frame animation, though it definitely takes a while getting used to its quirks.

Do you mean folder? I don't actually mess with any layer properties when animating, but I know it can be annoying having to constantly open and close things.
