I love the work with the newspaper, very clever! And as 'lazy' as the story is, I still like it, some more backstory on how he got there would be nice though.

backstory is that Toonie was travelling on his boat in the sea when all of a sudden, a weird storm cloud appeared, enclosing him in a violent storm. A huge hole appeared in the sea, and unable to escape it, Toonie got sucked in, and ended up in the seas of the Splatoon universe. Tangerine spotted his boat on the coast and has been with him ever since
