Hello everyone! As promised, the master post!

So, since I’ve been having an indecent amount of stuff just hanging around regarding this project, with no semblance of order in any way, I decided to finally compile a master post with all the character references for this Modern Centaur AU of mine, in hopes that you too might find this interesting!

You can scroll directly to the characters if you want, but I’d like to start with some history of how this actually came to be.

It all started with one single dumb idea: making a centaur-themed Telegram sticker pack since there wasn’t one in the official stickers. So, like there were many character based sticker packs like Doug the Dog, or Freddie the Frog or that kind of thing, I made Charlie the Centaur. I didn’t really have a plan for him at first. Later on I got more involved into the centaur community, and I thought, "wait, what if I did a nsfw centaur sticker pack?" And thus, Percy the Pervy Centaur was born near the end of my first year of animation school (2017).
This character, on the other hand, had me really inspired to flesh him out more. When I do a sticker pack I am obsessive with associating the fitting emoji for the sticker itself, so when I selected what I wanted for him, I basically started writing a little story in those stickers. I made him have a drinking problem, being afraid of love, and being extremely slutty. As I went on I developed two other characters that interact with him in the sticker pack: Ryder (the name being a pun on the fact that he is Percy’s rider) and Karin, a friend in common of them both.
At that point I had also given Charlie a boyfriend, Cory, that I decided could be Ryder’s brother. So then things just started happening; suddenly I thought of Percy’s profession, his relationship with Ryder and Karin, and every other character that followed.

You might notice that some characters are drawn in a more cartoony style than others. That is because, aside the characters from the sticker packs (Charlie and Percy), I initially drew color references for each character as they were supposed to appear in a comic. I had started Once In A Blue Moon as a comic, only to find out it was a tedious process that I couldn't bring myself to finish, so I dropped that idea, but the references remained since they're still good for a consistent color reference.

WHY MODERN CENTAUR AU?
I simply borrowed the term Alternate Universe from fanfiction lingo since it just helped me to have a name to refer to when talking about this project. It’s set in a universe similar and contemporary to ours, with the sole difference that there are centaurs and half anthro humanoid hybrids. I have several stories set in this universe, some of them will be posted gradually with the main project, Once In A Blue Moon, the story I’m completing and is about Percy and Ryder.

WHY TALK ABOUT THIS NOW?
I personally have a lot of issues in finishing projects, and I am also the kind of person that gets extremely miffed at seeing a story that never reaches a conclusion. This is the reason why I haven't shared any of this previously; I just wanted to be sure I would be able to finish the project before talking about it and before people got excited for something that never happened. As of this date, 27th of April 2020, I am over half way done with the illustrations for this heavily illustrated written story. The text is all there, it needs a final revision before posting it, but the project as a whole is slowly wrapping up, and this is why I am finally, proudly confident to share all this with you all :3

THE CHARACTERS:
Percy Cherron

Age: 24
Sex: male
Relationships: used to date Learco. Is in a relationship with Ryder. Is close friends with Karin. Tanya is one of his best friend and employer.
Sexual orientation: gay
Occupation: pole dancer, stripper and sex worker. He works at the Blue Mood Nightclub.
Description:
He is petty, flamboyant and sassy. His front of narcissism is to cover up the profound sense of not being good enough for other people, or messing things up emotionally with others. His name is a play on words on a horse breed, the Percheron, originally a french type of draft horse. In fact, his family is originally from France, and he speaks fluent English and French. His family is quite artsy, and he used to attend dance school earlier in his life before moving out of town for college, which he promptly dropped out of after things fell out with Learco. He has a severe problem with sex addiction and alcohol, previously dealing with heavier drugs to try and cope with the loss. Karin helped him stop with the heavier substances, finding him his current job and home, but the healing is something Percy himself needs to figure out. He has tattoos on his arms, that he tends to cover up as much as possible since they remind him of Learco, as they are matching tattoos they got together to celebrate graduating together. Through Karin’s intervention, he ends up dating Ryder, who helps him to get out of part of his self loathing, but he has a long way to go before he can fully move on, if he ever will.

Ryder Copperfell

Age: 27
Sex: male
Relationships: is friends with Karin. Is now in a relationship with Percy. He is Cory’s adoptive older brother.
Sexual orientation: bisexual
Occupation: he works at his father’s supermarket for the time being. When things finally get settled for him, he finds a vocation in music and ends up working for a local radio station.
Description:
He has quite a stubborn character, being part of his idea of masculinity that he wants to uphold. This front he tries to live by however is not something he enjoys, since it makes him feel guilty for liking romantic comedies and has him live in denial of his attraction to both men and women. His name is a pun on the fact that he is the top in his relationship with Percy. He has south-american origins, more specifically Argentinian. His parents escaped to the US when he was very young, so he doesn't speak spanish as fluently as he used to. He likes music quite a lot, playing the guitar a while back, then stopped out of lacking motivation for pretty much anything, but he is still quite the music nerd. He also has a knack for figuring out people, also a reason why he loves romcoms. The other reason why he enjoys romantic comedies, and romance in general, is that he always wished it would be the scenario in which is biological parents would live, but they didn’t. His parents did not go along at all, his father abandoning the family at a young age and the lone mother dying soon after.

Karin

Relationships: He is friends with Ryder and Percy, with whom he has quite a deep connection. Darren is one of his many lovers, and Tanya is a dear friend. Aaden is his protégé.
Sexual orientation: gay, polyamorous
Occupation: unknown
Description:
He is charming and loves playing the coy, mysterious card to lure in people he finds interesting or sense might need some help. Generally very mellow and easygoing, he takes pleasure in setting people up together for he has a good sense of people’s compatibility, an activity the other members of his species generally frown upon. He cares deeply about everyone he meets, as it in within his nature to be very nurturing. Due to his constant need to move around for his occupation, he doesn’t keep ties with any one person, and is why he is polyamorous rather than monogamous. He has unspecified magic powers, some of them being able to seemingly predict the future and appear/disappear in different places effortlessly.

Charlie Blackbourne

Age: 19
Sex: male
Relationships: is in a relationship with Cory
Sexual orientation: gay
Occupation: computer engineering student from overseas.
Description:
Playful and chipper, he likes jokes and is a huge nerd. He loves studying and concentrating on projects, and is a very talkative extrovert. He does archery and sometimes enjoys LARP. He loves listening to game soundtracks, often times sort of stalking the composer on the internet to know when new music is released. His family isn’t particularly rich. He comes from an unspecified village in England, but decided to graduate in the United States to better his chances at finding a job in the field. He is quite clueless when it comes to romance, and generally picking on cues by other people isn’t his forte, but he tries his best.

NOTE: After some joking around in a group chat, Mer!Charlie came to be a thing, and I developed a little side project to this that I call Splash!AU, in reference to the 1984 film Splash!, where a mermaid tries to hide among humans. In this case, Cory would take the place of the male lead, and Charlie would be the merman.

Cory Copperfell

Age: 20
Sex: male
Relationships: is in a relationship with Charlie. He is Ryder’s adoptive younger brother.
Sexual orientation: gay
Occupation: he works at his father’s supermarket, but is still a student. He wouldn’t mind working there all his life, as he has fun there.
Description:
He is pretty naive at times, almost sort of innocent, for that reason he never really considered romance at all before meeting Charlie. Like Charlie, he is a playful dork. He got close to Charlie since they were the only centaurs in the course, and they developed a friendship from trying to learn stuff together, which admittedly Cory wasn't too good at.
He hardly ever gets angry, but when he does it’s for a very good reason. He is originally from Pakistan. He is always very patient, thing that comes in quite handy with his work at the store. He is very sensitive to people’s mood, and often has quite the skill in cheering them up. He has fun pranking people, Charlie or Ryder being the most popular victims of his antics. One of his most popular pranks that he pulls with Charlie is creating fake temporary accounts and playing in the call center guy stereotype.

Learco Damascus

Age: 18
Sex: male
Relationships: used to date Percy
Sexual orientation: unsure
Occupation: college student
Description:
He was Percy’s childhood friend for a long time, having lived as neighbors for a long time and then moving in together then they moved town to pursue higher education. Their friendship quickly turned into something more once they benefited of the distance between them and their parents. Jealous, clingy but tenderly affectionate, he cared a lot about Percy despite them fighting a lot and failed to get him out of his budding sexual addiction before they fell apart. They share matching tattoos on each arm.

Tanya Lipner

Age: 38
Sex: female
Relationships: She has a wife called Laeticia, with whom she runs the Blue Moon Nightclub. Percy, Priscilla, Roger, Jean and Juniper work for her. She is friends with Karin.
Sexual orientation: ace, biromantic
Occupation: She is the Madame and secondary choreographer at the Blue Moon Nightclub.
Description:
She is a practical person and pretty straightforward. She met Karin a while back before opening the club, and met her wife through him, and then Percy. She sheltered Percy as she saw he needed a shoulder to lean on, and since then she takes care of him. She treats him as if he were a sort of adoptive son, but she doesn’t hold her other employees in any less regard. She has a rather detached view of sex, which makes her run the business efficiently, and enjoys discussing with every one of her performers the style of music, dance, costumes and choreography of each performance, to make the best experience for both the guests and her employees. She has a scorpion tattoo on her right shoulder as it is her astrological sign.

Priscilla Merney

Age: 28
Sex: female
Relationships: she is in a sort of platonic relationship with Roger. Tanya is her employer and friend, and she has a feud going on with Percy.
Sexual orientation: hetero
Occupation: sex worker, stripper and pole dancer at the Blue Moon Nightclub
Description:
Priscilla was originally planned to be a foil to Percy’s character arc, since they are somewhat rivals at work, but there was no real room for it in the story as a whole, and it would have distracted from the main plot. They still bicker a lot on who performs the better, and none of them really knows that both of them are really just wounded people that are just taking it out on others. They are very similarly petty, that’s why they never really settle their feud, and it’s a running joke among the cast of the Blue Moon. She was forced into prostitution at a very young age, but due to her insecurities has never had the courage to pursue a different profession. Despite her liking the Blue Moon as an environment, her hate for her profession stops her from desiring any other sexual physical contact from a relationship.

Roger Brown

Age: 36
Sex: male
Relationships: he is a sort of platonic relationship with Priscilla. Tanya is his employer.
Sexual orientation: hetero
Occupation: bartender and backup security at the Blue Moon Nightclub
Description:
He is quite the gentle giant, not talking much if not to drop a witty quip every once in a while. He is a good listener and observer, always up for a comforting hug. He has a keen sense of taste, and loves cooking. He has a deep voice that he uses to introduce the performers on stage at the Nightclub, and is larger than the average centaur, which makes him rather imposing.

Juniper Silva

Age: 29
Sex: female
Relationships: is in a relationship with Bea, who belongs to
Sexual orientation: bisexual
Occupation: security at the Blue Moon Nightclub
Description:
She is very easy going, strong and funny. She loves training and chilling’ at home with a nice meal and a good flick, in company of her husky dog, Buddy. She’s quite a gentle giant most of the time, loving hugs and cuddles. Since she’s quite big, she has no problem when kids ask to climb on her back. She’s pretty firm and serious during her job, her size helping her in intimidating people. Her go to music is jazz and swing, and it fairly partial to electro swing. If you’re lucky enough you might catch her dancing the Charleston.

Jean Bourquin

Age: 23
Sex: male
Relationships: he is friends with Percy. Priscilla is one of his colleagues, Tanya is his employer.

Occupation: sex worker, stripper and pole dancer at the Blue Moon Nightclub
Description:

Outside of work he is mostly an introvert, focusing on his sort of feminine charm and fitness most of the time. He loves reading and spending time at libraries, and has quite a knack for fashion when he’s in the right mood. He is friends with Percy since they share a french heritage, and spend a lot of time gossiping about all sorts of things. His older brother Marcus works as a bouncer/security person at the Blue Moon Nightclub. He decided to support his brother after Jean came out to his family about the job and was promptly disowned.

Darren Carrasco

Age: 32
Sex: male
Relationships: currently single, though he has a sort of long distance relationship with Karin. He knows Alistair since it’s pretty hard not to.
Sexual orientation: gay
Occupation: fashion designer
Description:
Originally designed by , I first saw him in a batch of adoptables. I’m not one who usually adopts characters since most of the time my brain suffices, but I saw that design and I immediately had the idea of what kind of character he might be. Since I envisioned him as the lead fashion designer for centaurs, it made sense to integrate him as a sort of background presence in this universe. Flamboyant, commandeering, almost a bit arrogant with his views on the work itself, but has a soft side with partners, often being more submissive than anything. He is quite narcissistic, thinking he’s always right, having the right inspiration. Most of the times it is true, but he doesn’t have a particularly nice attitude about it. When I designed him I immediately thought he might have had something to do with Karin, since Karin always loves being well-dressed, so I thought that them being involved was just a given.

Alistair J M Kilney

Age: 23
Sex: male
Relationships: he is sort of friends with Darren since they’re both in the rich circle of designers. He has a horse he calls his boyfriend, who he spoils and sweet talks to all the time.
Sexual orientation: gay, leaning to zoo
Occupation: has never worked a day in his life, as he inherited most of his riches from his family. He runs an accessory line just for fun.
Description:
Alistair is a very eccentric centaur. I developed him after a conversation with a friend, where we imagined centaurs being more.. open minded about certain behaviours. He is a spoiled rich brat that has no impact on the story whatsoever, but it made sense to put him in this universe as he is also in the fashion industry just for fun, so he and Darren have crossed paths. A primadonna, he loves being at the centre of attention, as he has a narcissism disorder and heavy daddy issues. He inherited most of his money, a large house with an army of maids at his service from his father as a gift for his 18th birthday. He won a large draft horse he calls his boyfriend at an auction and people took it as one of his eccentric behaviors at first, but it was pretty apparent quite quickly what he actually wanted from it. He doesn’t stop the horse from doing anything, with the justification that it would hurt its feelings. He is the typical white boy who hasn’t worked a day in his life, privileged and constantly judging everyone else, even if he has severe self deprecation tendencies when he is alone. He is a drug addict.

Aaden

Age: unknown
Sex: male presenting
Relationships: he is Karin’s protégé
Sexual orientation: ace
Occupation: student in the ways of magic
Description:
The latest added to the bunch, he was originally designed by . He is a shy, nature loving centaur. He has a very artistic vision and has a knack for visual learning. The only person he trusts is Karin, among the council of the unicorn taurs, for he is the one more open to interacting with people and the world, a practice that is generally frowned upon by the other council members. He has not been in contact with the modern world yet, for he is still learning magic and how to interact with it, so he is shielded in the pocket dimension where unicorn centaurs retreat to for their meetings. He was one of the oldest taurs, that died in battle and was reborn as him, and had a strong friendship with Karin; that’s the reason why the council decided for Karin to be his mentor.

ADDITIONAL LORE OF THIS UNIVERSE:
I haven’t really thought much about how unicorn taurs work in this universe, aside the fact that they exist as some sort of divine manifestation to interact with the world our “normal” protagonists reside in.
Their powers are somewhat unspecified, the only thing I really thought is that they can see potential futures and outcomes, a power that Karin exploits rather often to play matchmaker.
Each taur has a sort of jurisdiction in which they operate, but since there are only 10 of them they preside over large territories and are always on the move.
Unicorn taurs reside in a pocket dimension where they get their magic from and where they escaped to once they stopped being mostly relevant in modern times, and magic in the world was disappearing for good.
Unicorn taurs are mostly a-gender and don’t reproduce sexually. They can however decide to take a gendered form. They don’t appear as unicorn taurs to normal folk, unless they bond emotionally with the people they interact with.They tend to be aromantic, trying not to meddle directly with people, and Karin is chastised for his “libertine” behavior.
Unicorn taurs are mostly immune to harm, and for that reason they can’t get piercings and or tattoos for they will heal, but if they take too much damage they can be killed, and will be reborn in another form in the sheltered pocket dimension and grow there, with no memory of the previous life, but with the same body and character and name as before. The eldest unicorn taur is 1500 years old. Karin is one of the youngest, being “only” 130 years old. Karin is not his real name, though it is the one he goes by, even among the council. A real name wields enormous power on the unicorn centaur, binding it to a command or summoning. None of the unicorn centaurs know the real name of the other, except the Summoner, who’s only power is to summon the yearly council. They have no other superior power, but as they know the names of each, they are carefully selected.
The only ones who can see Karin as he truly is are Tanya, Percy, Ryder and Darren.
All unicorn taurs have blue blood.
Racism, sexism and speciesism are sadly still rampant in this society, particularly due to the fact that generally speaking half animal hybrids are the minority. Most of the planet is still populated by humans, going at a 60%, half animal hybrids are 25% and centaurs are 15%

Animal traits in the gene pool are: tails, horns, ears, sometimes feet in the shape of paws. Not all paws will match the fur of the tail, but will just have normal skin matching the rest of the body. The same applies to the nose: not all noses will be fully human nor fully animal. The animal traits are generally derived from terrestrial mammals.

Centaurs are not the same size as regular horses. Their height can vary from 1,7m to 2,8m (5.5ft to 9.1ft)

Centaurs can have a mane or not, and can have either human ears or equine ears. The equine ear is a generally dominant trait. Manes are generally shaved since it's like the equivalent of hairy legs. Tails are generally best kept long as to cover certain body parts, but depending on regional societal standards it's more or less frowned upon to have a short tail. Bestiality is still something off limits for everyone, Alistair is not being a good example.

On this note, I generally don't condone smoking. I treat it as a vice both Ryder and Percy share since they are going through some emotional turmoil and are using it as an unhealthy coping mechanism.

He got close to Charlie since they were the only centaurs in the course, and they developed a friendship from trying to learn stuff together, which admittedly Cory wasn't too good at.
He hardly ever gets angry, but when he does it’s for a very good reason. He is originally from Pakistan. He is always very patient, thing that comes in quite handy with his work at the store. He is very sensitive to people’s mood, and often has quite the skill in cheering them up. He has fun pranking people, Charlie or Ryder being the most popular victims of his antics. One of his most popular pranks that he pulls with Charlie is creating fake temporary accounts and playing in the call center guy stereotype.

She is a practical person and pretty straightforward. She met Karin a while back before opening the club, and met her wife through him, and then Percy. She treats him as if he were a sort of adoptive son, but she doesn’t hold her other employees in any less regard. She has a rather detached view of sex, which makes her run the business efficiently, and enjoys discussing with every one of her performers the style of music, dance, costumes and choreography of each performance, to make the best experience for both the guests and her employees. She has a scorpion tattoo on her right shoulder as it is her astrological sign.

Priscilla Merney

Priscilla was originally planned to be a foil to Percy’s character arc, since they are somewhat rivals at work, but there was no real room for it in the story as a whole, and it would have distracted from the main plot. They still bicker a lot on who performs the better, and none of them really knows that both of them are really just wounded people that are just taking it out on others. They are very similarly petty, that’s why they never really settle their feud, and it’s a running joke among the cast of the Blue Moon. She was forced into prostitution at a very young age, but due to her insecurities has never had the courage to pursue a different profession. Despite her liking the Blue Moon as an environment, her hate for her profession stops her from desiring any other sexual physical contact from a relationship.

He is friends with Percy since they share a french heritage, and spend a lot of time gossiping about all sorts of things. His older brother Marcus works as a bouncer/security person at the Blue Moon Nightclub. He decided to support his brother after Jean came out to his family about the job and was promptly disowned.

Originally designed by , I first saw him in a batch of adoptables. I’m not one who usually adopts characters since most of the time my brain suffices, but I saw that design and I immediately had the idea of what kind of character he might be. Since I envisioned him as the lead fashion designer for centaurs, it made sense to integrate him as a sort of background presence in this universe. Flamboyant, commandeering, almost a bit arrogant with his views on the work itself, but has a soft side with partners, often being more submissive than anything. He is quite narcissistic, thinking he’s always right, having the right inspiration. Most of the times it is true, but he doesn’t have a particularly nice attitude about it. When I designed him I immediately thought he might have had something to do with Karin, since Karin always loves being well-dressed, so I thought that them being involved was just a given.

Alistair is a very eccentric centaur. I developed him after a conversation with a friend, where we imagined centaurs being more.. open minded about certain behaviours. He is a spoiled rich brat that has no impact on the story whatsoever, but it made sense to put him in this universe as he is also in the fashion industry just for fun, so he and Darren have crossed paths. A primadonna, he loves being at the centre of attention, as he has a narcissism disorder and heavy daddy issues. He inherited most of his money, a large house with an army of maids at his service from his father as a gift for his 18th birthday. He won a large draft horse he calls his boyfriend at an auction and people took it as one of his eccentric behaviors at first, but it was pretty apparent quite quickly what he actually wanted from it. He doesn’t stop the horse from doing anything, with the justification that it would hurt its feelings. He is the typical white boy who hasn’t worked a day in his life, privileged and constantly judging everyone else, even if he has severe self deprecation tendencies when he is alone. He is a drug addict.

The latest added to the bunch, he was originally designed by . He is a shy, nature loving centaur. He has a very artistic vision and has a knack for visual learning. The only person he trusts is Karin, among the council of the unicorn taurs, for he is the one more open to interacting with people and the world, a practice that is generally frowned upon by the other council members. He has not been in contact with the modern world yet, for he is still learning magic and how to interact with it, so he is shielded in the pocket dimension where unicorn centaurs retreat to for their meetings. He was one of the oldest taurs, that died in battle and was reborn as him, and had a strong friendship with Karin; that’s the reason why the council decided for Karin to be his mentor.

ADDITIONAL LORE OF THIS UNIVERSE:
I haven’t really thought much about how unicorn taurs work in this universe, aside the fact that they exist as some sort of divine manifestation to interact with the world our “normal” protagonists reside in.
Their powers are somewhat unspecified, the only thing I really thought is that they can see potential futures and outcomes, a power that Karin exploits rather often to play matchmaker.
Each taur has a sort of jurisdiction in which they operate, but since there are only 10 of them they preside over large territories and are always on the move.
Unicorn taurs reside in a pocket dimension where they get their magic from and where they escaped to once they stopped being mostly relevant in modern times, and magic in the world was disappearing for good.
Unicorn taurs are mostly a-gender and don’t reproduce sexually. They can however decide to take a gendered form. They don’t appear as unicorn taurs to normal folk, unless they bond emotionally with the people they interact with.They tend to be aromantic, trying not to meddle directly with people, and Karin is chastised for his “libertine” behavior.
Unicorn taurs are mostly immune to harm, and for that reason they can’t get piercings and or tattoos for they will heal, but if they take too much damage they can be killed, and will be reborn in another form in the sheltered pocket dimension and grow there, with no memory of the previous life, but with the same body and character and name as before. The eldest unicorn taur is 1500 years old. Karin is one of the youngest, being “only” 130 years old. Karin is not his real name, though it is the one he goes by, even among the council. A real name wields enormous power on the unicorn centaur, binding it to a command or summoning. None of the unicorn centaurs know the real name of the other, except the Summoner, who’s only power is to summon the yearly council. They have no other superior power, but as they know the names of each, they are carefully selected.
The only ones who can see Karin as he truly is are Tanya, Percy, Ryder and Darren.
All unicorn taurs have blue blood.
Racism, sexism and speciesism are sadly still rampant in this society, particularly due to the fact that generally speaking half animal hybrids are the minority. Most of the planet is still populated by humans, going at a 60%, half animal hybrids are 25% and centaurs are 15%

Animal traits in the gene pool are: tails, horns, ears, sometimes feet in the shape of paws. Not all paws will match the fur of the tail, but will just have normal skin matching the rest of the body. The same applies to the nose: not all noses will be fully human nor fully animal. The animal traits are generally derived from terrestrial mammals.

Centaurs are not the same size as regular horses. Their height can vary from 1,7m to 2,8m (5.5ft to 9.1ft)

Centaurs can have a mane or not, and can have either human ears or equine ears. The equine ear is a generally dominant trait. Manes are generally shaved since it's like the equivalent of hairy legs. Tails are generally best kept long as to cover certain body parts, but depending on regional societal standards it's more or less frowned upon to have a short tail. Bestiality is still something off limits for everyone, Alistair is not being a good example.

On this note, I generally don't condone smoking. I treat it as a vice both Ryder and Percy share since they are going through some emotional turmoil and are using it as an unhealthy coping mechanism.
