It's like the sorceror in Clark Ashton Smith's mythos yarn "The Double Tower" who exchanges bodies with a philosopher made of sentient MOLD. Once the exchange is made, warping space so that for a brief period, his tower coexists with the other tower, the two switch bodies. BUT while the mold philosopher had gained tremendously by now having a fully mobile body , the sorceror attempts to undo the switch by repeating the spell, only to find that the spell requires speaking it aloud -and the mold body has NO vocal organs. He is now as miserable as those enslaved mice.
"The Double Tower" was begun by Clark Ashton Smith" and finished years later by Lin Carter. I don't know how much each did on it.
