Description I had to draw the sexy CRT girl, I just had to

And then I had to display her on an actual CRT so I can pretend I have my own Burnbot who will trashtalk me

I just wish I had a better camera.

The original image being displayed

The original image being displayed with a CRT filter, ironically looking better than it does on an actual CRT

Now this is dedication. Cudos on using a analogue TV and not some boring flatscreen.

Almost no choice but to use this charming dinosaur for my fossilized game setup, not only is it more historically accurate, which is a big part of the appeal to retro games for me, the same appeal that fossils have for an archaeologist, so as a "historian" I like to recreate the experience that people had playing those games when they were new as closely as I can, but it also functions better for those kinds of games. Analog signals on modern digital TVs have a six-frame input lag, that's why professional Melee players still play on a CRT. I thought I was just bad at Mike Tyson's Punch Out until I got mine, that input lag makes the rematch with Bald Bull borderline unplayable. And up until just recently it was the only way to play light gun games because of the different ways the screens are displayed, on a digital TV the gun doesn't even see the flash of light because it's looking specifically for the specific way a CRT would display it

Oh yeah I miss my old analogue TV for the similar. The only reason I haven't dug it out of the storage trailer is because my current room is too small to fit it. Trying to plug a PS2 (or anything really) into the digital TV is a pain in the ass because we have to basically take it off the wall every time we want to do so. The digital's probably not as heavy as the analogue, but with the analogue you can just turn it around, you don't have to worry about hooking it back to it's rigging or call upon the rest of the family for help.

I don't care how 'convenient' things like digital TVs & streaming services are, they're annoying and I'm spiteful.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the different "inputs." I know that nowadays TVs can detect which input is getting a signal and switch to it automatically, but the first digital plasma screen my family had, you had to do it manually, there was no choice. To this day I still remember the Saturday morning in 2008 after we got it, it was a frustration I will take to my grave. I had set the TV to channel 4 and turned on the Wii, because that's what you did, that's how it worked on the previous TV sitting in that Dynex's place just days prior, and the picture wouldn't come up, the screen just displayed static. I turned it on and off a few times, I unplugged it and plugged it back in, I unplugged the AV cable and blew into the port, nothing seemed to work, I thought the Wii was broken, so I turned the cable box on to watch TV while waiting for my parents to get up so I could have my dad take a look at it, but that wasn't working either, I thought that meant something was wrong with the new TV, so I actually woke my mom up, and she was not happy at all that I woke her up either, so she could explain to me that I had to pick up the remote, press "input" then set the TV to either "Composite 1" for the Wii, "Composite 2" for the PS2, "HDMI 1" for the cable box, or "HDMI 2" for the PS3, and as soon as she went back to bed, all I could think was that that was the stupidest fucking thing I had ever heard. That was the day that I became James Rolfe in the 13 Dead End Drive video when he goes "I don't even know if that phone still works," and then when Mike and Bootsy take out their smart phones, he just smashes them and goes "fuck technology!" That's me, that was the day that that became me. I'm all for the progression of science and technology, I'm still eagerly awaiting the day I can download a holographic AI of an anime girl with bunny ears and make her my wife, but what I'm not for is fixing what wasn't broken, and there was nothing broken about just setting the TV to channel 4 to play a video game. I was so glad a few years ago when I was helping my dad set up a Roku TV that replaced the Dynex after it shat the bed to find that it switched inputs automatically as soon as it received a signal. It was like validation for my younger self, that it wasn't just me, even the people who manufacture the damn things agreed that having to switch inputs manually was bullshit. There was no reason that a TV made ten years ago shouldn't be able to do something a TV from ten years prior could. That's like if a new physical video format came out to be a successor to Bluray, but you have to rewind it between uses like a VHS.

Roku TVs are definitely an improvement over most other digital televisions. The only complaint I have (and I'm not sure if this is standard on all models) is that our Roku TV doesn't actually have buttons. You need to use the remote and God forbid you should lose it or have the batteries run dead. If they were to include buttons on the front or side you could use in case of remote loss, then I'd say Roku was close to perfect. Still the best choice, though; if we could afford Rokus for every room, we'd get them.

And oh, I could talk about physical or broadcast media vs streaming all day.

I'm already fat and have opinions of movies, so I'm two thirds of the way to being Max, it's gonna be pretty hard to find a toon ghost on such short notice though

Thank you, watching AVGN at a younger age than I was supposed to is what got me into game collecting. If you remember the Texas a Chainsaw Massacre video where the dude's just like "I want to be an angry nerd reviewer just like you, but I thought it would be easier if I cut you open, got inside you, and actually became you," that guy was basically just me
