It's that time of year again where all the Halloween stuff comes into stores early, and it's also that time of the year where I'm incredibly grateful for that because where I'm from that hasn't been a thing for very long. I remember less than a decade ago it kinda sucked having Halloween as your favorite holiday, because as soon as it was time for it all the Christmas stuff would be in the stores, they're already playing Christmas music on the radio, Christmas would just completely preempt Halloween like the greedy glutton of a holiday it is, as if overshadowing Thanksgiving and sticking around through January wasn't enough. Everywhere I'd go in October it just wouldn't feel like Halloween until maybe the week of. And I would always say that if Christmas isn't going to wait until after Halloween then at least Halloween should come early too. I get that Christmas is marketable and greedy corporations do what greedy corporations do, but Halloween is plenty marketable too! I don't remember exactly what year it was, maybe around 2017 or so, but when I saw hot cocoa mix that comes in a container shaped like a witch's cauldron being sold at a Barnes and Noble in August, I almost didn't believe it, I thought maybe a container that was supposed to be a Leprechaun's pot of gold for St. Patrick's day got the wrong label put on it. But no, it was real, Walmart had their Halloween store displays out, Spirit Halloween had opened its doors, I finally got my wish! And it never gets any less satisfying no matter how many years pass that I'm still getting my wish, it wasn't just a one-time thing. And sure it's just as ridiculous as it always was to have holiday stuff in stores so far ahead of the actual holiday, that hasn't changed, corporations are still greedy bastards, if given my way I would still prefer Christmas stay in December and Halloween in October, but at least now it's fair.
