here's my manbat for the DSC....i'm okay with this. the composition didn't exactly turn out the way i'd planed....i think the emotional impact of the faces is kinda lost. so i uploaded a large version, so you should be able to click on it and get a better view and see if there is any emotional impact at all.although i worked at a rapid pace, this took me almost 3 hours....way too long for the DSC. even though i wanted to spend more time on these, i won"t being doing that again.
in case any of you aren't up on your Man Bat history, i figured i'd illustrate that point in time where, Karl's wife....Francine has discovered that Man Bat is actually her husband.

It kind of reminds me of The Fly (except with, well, a bat). Very emotional and well-drawn. Well done!

I think it's a very strong piece. I felt the emotional impact right away. I know how it is when it doesn't match what YOU had in mind, though. Still, a very strong piece.

i think that's true for all artists...what we end up putting down on paper, is rarely close to what's in out heads. it's something we all have to learn to live with. thanks for the kind words.

That's beautiful Man-bat is one of the saddest (and personal favorite of mine) characters in the Batman mythos.

...and you are selling yourself WAAAYY short... There's a ton of pathos in that piece.
That's what I try to do, and why I have a tough time working in the strick line-art only approach... without at lot of time to render, it can difficult to convey subtle messages without exaggerating features or anatomy and such. It's like trying to write Shakespeare using 4th grade level vocabulary, --either sacrifice details for sake of brevity, or use many, many, many times more words and effort to try to convey the original level of detail.
Others of the DSC have better handles on it, but for speed, I haven't learned that particular 'language.' For me, subtlety is in the shades.
Again, Superb execution.
It's also kinda weird, but I went back and kept working on the Man-Bat image too... til the wee hours,...

That is just gorgeous, man. The rendering is your usual top-notch stuff. I love it because it has shades of the old greats from the Mad magazine days like Davis and such.
I'm really diggin' the interaction of the characters especially since you've captured Man Bat in such a great pose that just elevates the mood of the piece. Has a 'Beauty and the Beast' vibe to it that just makes it all around aces.
