Option magazine is one of the most recognized (and largest - each monthly issue can run up to 400 pages!) car tuning magazine in Japan. Each month, an artist does a beautifully illustrated version of the featured car as a piece of artwork that graces the simplified cover. This Z has been the only car to make the cover twice, to my knowledge, and it is a truly amazing machine. It was shipped over to the States to do battle in Nevada's Silver State Classic, an annual high speed 90 mile race out in the desert. My friends at Autolink connected with the owner/crew and worked on the car once it got stateside for last minute preparations for the race. This is the car's second incarnation, since the first car was totalled when a tire blew out at over 200mph!! Overall, this year, both car and driver came back with a vengence and secured 3rd place in the unlimited class. Wow!!

I chose to do this cover mock-up for a digital art class I'm taking. It was hand-drawn and scanned into Illustrator where I handled all the linework and logos (which I've still got to place on the car in a different version that I'll put up when finished). The airbrushing was done by photoreference all in Photoshop. Patience is a virtue.
