Description
Damn it. The movie hasn't even come out yet, and I'm just sitting here making headcanons.Apparently Jack Frost was a human, and he died while ice skating with his sister (I think?) because he fell through the ice and drowned, while saving her. At least, that's what I've read.
It would make sense that he went into shock and drowned, but I'm not totally satisfied with that. So after thinking about it for way too long, I got it in my head that maybe Pitch (the Boogeyman) was there to hold Jack under water until he died - from a mix of drowning and being fucking cold, y'know. And probably a heart attack because "Holy shit what is this boogeyman under the water with me?!"
Yeah, that would be a really shitty way to die. I'm sorry. lol No I'm not.
I got all 'Fullmetal Alchemist' with those extra hands.
I painted this pretty quickly, hence the messiness. I just needed to get this idea down. xD
Also, I couldn't find a good picture of him in his old clothes, so I didn't really have a reference. Sorry, his clothes are probably all wrong. I had to work mostly from memory.
And how the fuck do you draw broken ice from under water? (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
If you comment here, please don't give me anymore spoilers! The only things I know about the movie are the adorable character designs, the general premise of the film, and a tidbit on how Jack died. I would like to wait until I get an opportunity to see the film.
To be perfectly honest, I'm a little skeptical of this movie because it looks like it might be overly "kiddy" (and by that, I mean dumbed down). BUT I love the character designs, so... I have no regrets drawing fanart this early.
EDIT: Saw the movie, finally! It was cute, and it deserves to be seen in theaters. It's not perfect story-wise (there were lots of things that made the writer in me weep because there was so much potential for more but noooo... What can I do?!), but it's visually stunning and very uplifting. Baby Tooth and the Yetis were fucking cute! ;3;

Basically he just saves his sister and then ends up falling through the ice himself. I'm sure you can find a clip on YouTube by now.

Isn't it weird that Jack Frost died the same way Leonardo Dicaprio's character did from Titanic: drowning in ice cold water saving a girl he cared so much? What's MORE unusual was that he also has the same name, Jack, and Jack Frost was originally going to be voiced by Leo himself?!

I rrad the novelization and you're right on the money with Jack saving his sister. I think the author was trying to keep it spoiler free so all wee see in the novel is Jack falling through the ice then he drowns...

Hey I've beeb meaning to send or actually type a review/comment since hte day you posted this.... I really love this picture, possibly one of my favorites so far in the Rise of the Guardians area just because of it has such an amazing back story to it heart
I don't care how morbid this peice is, nor sad cause it's just so awesomly done and thought out...
I have to admit it's an amazing representation of Momento More (celebrating life through death) I seem to love those types of paintings more and more since my art class last year... loL Never thought I was into that sort of thing now I can't get enough of those sorta paintings some reason theirs so much emotion in them, and their so fun to paint and create certian symbolism towards...
I totally LOVE this painting and hope you do more like these... I can't get enough of this, I even thinking I went to bed that night after looking at your painting and was like Woah, if I remember corectly, since your A/N gave me the urge to look up those facts, though I couldn't find all of them, and sadly don't want to pay $40 bucks or even $29 for an art book, your painting (which if I'm not mistaken and it is not computer animation is either oil pastel or a form of oil paints) totally made me want to get my hands on a decently priced copy of that ROTG Art book, cause it sounds amazing, and looking at it on Amizon made me want to get it... To bad all my funds are saving up for stuff, like paying school bills which sucks sometimes... huh... What can I say that's life... LOL
Anyways as I was saying your painting totally sent me on that rampage to learn whatever I could without scowerging the art book which I couldn't find anything online (though it was so late at night I don't think I had the brain functions/juice to look acuratly) I did not find everything that you mentinoed, which I just wanted to read again or find the whole story to (I tend to like to solve things even when it spoils something, waiting sometimes is so killer no matter the patience I have) I was really interested in finding out if in the begining of the film their actually going to show Jacks death, and actually your painting made me want to see that just to know if Pitch caused it... It does seem like he might do something like that... I was so excited that night that I dreamt that I was suddenly thrown into the scene and watching what happened to Jack from the water... Then some other things happened I can't honestly say I remember, it was two nights ago so eh what can I say...
-Another thing I wished to mention is your idea that Pitch actually draged Jack down to his death/doom was amazing and launched a story idea in my head to take place most likely after the ROTG film. It's a story of what if Pitch didn't stop with just Jack, what if he tried again... Several things occure that I don't necissarily want to explain here... BUt did want to mention I'm totally giving you credit for this picture inspiring the story to come up in my head.
I agree that the "normal" type of death that Jack might face does not satisfy me either, I think something else happened underwater that caused him to become and awaken as Jack Frost
The best advise I could give on the broken ice underwater (in answer to your question) is use google or bing and look up how to draw stuff like that, or as I've done in having to draw figures underwater wiht the light cascading from down from under water I just look up pictures in Google that get close to what I'm looking for and just focus on the kinds of things I see or can distinguish that can help me draw the picture to make it more realistic.
Thanks for the aweosme picture I do hope you have more coming up like this
Sincerely,
ColorGuardSweetHeart (Blurr'sgirl, AKA Bre)

Hey, I got your note as well! I'll just respond to everything here. ^^
First off thank you so much for your comment! Made my morning! To answer one of your questions, this is a digital painting; I used a Wacom tablet and Corel Painter 11. Anyways, it makes me really happy that this inspired a story out of you! Going by what you told me in your note, it sounds like a cool idea and you should totally go for it. By the way, November is National Novel Writing Month ([link] ).
To answer your question, from your note, unfortunately I can't be taking any requests or commissions for quite a while, because I'm in the process of trying to graduate from university. Then I'll be working at the hospital, and trying to climb out of dept. ...
So I wouldn't count on me to get much done at this time in my life, on top of the personal projects I'm already trying to finish. But you should go for it, and write your story. There are lots of artists - way more talented than me - who'll take commissions if you still want art.
I wish you luck on your writing.

You WILL enter this in the contest that ROTG is having in Facebook... you WILL. It's WAY to awesome to NOT share it with Dreamworks Animation. They're gonna love it! And thanks for the spoiler warning, I don't wanna know more about the movie until I actually WATCH it... then Imma hound you for all the things I wanna know that are in the book but aren't included in the movie, okay?
So don't be surprised if you return home to TONS of messages BEGGING for more info, okay?

I love it! Beautifully done.
As for the "Bitch, why you no swim/float and stuff?":
You do realize that the first thing that the human body does when suddenly immersed in cold water is go into panic and shock, right? Not to mention that it puts a major strain on the body, which leads to instant cardiac arrest.
Now imagine that while being weighed down with winter clothing (I know from personal experience that even the simplest attire can weigh up to 75 lbs when soaking wet) and a pair of constricting ice skates. He would eventually float to the top, but mostly likely after he was dead (the body would sink because of the lack of air, but when it decomposes it would float back up).
Just a quick answer to your question.
