Description Your Average Heart/Soul-What people usually have, made from emotions and connections. Their color is determined by one's personality, though they can have mixed colors if someone has a more complex demeanor. Souls like this

Pure Light-These HeartsΒ embody kindness, love, determination, and/or wisdom. Not exclusive to Princesses of Heart, but still difficult to get, requiring a strong Heart devoid of Corruption and Darkness. These Hearts are pretty good for driving away Corruption. Hearts these people are connected to can also get such a protection when near, and their presence can even reduce the amount of Heartless drawn to a world. It's essentially evil-repellant, like somebody's there watching your back.

Pure Darkness-These Souls embody gentleness, passion, courage, and/or humility. Not exclusive to Princesses of Soul, but still difficult to get, requiring a strong Soul devoid of Corruption and Light. These Hearts are pretty good for drawing in untainted Souls. Souls connected to these people are often likely to follow, and if they're emotionally attatched to the pure Soul, even protect it. It's essentially a bond, familial, friendly, romantic, or otherwise, taken to it's extreme.

Pure Evil-A Heart that hasn't been forcefully taken by Corruption's influence, but actively embraces it, putting their own selfish, and often vile desires and hatred above common-sense. Often sadistic, omnicidal, or just inhumanly cruel in nature, these Souls draw in Heartless, and can even control them. They often find themselves facing damnation upon defeat, assuming they haven't already collapsed into oblivion. Only then can powerful necromancy save them, but who would revive someone with a Heart like that?

Can You Live Without a Heart?-In some circumstances, yes, assuming whatever drained your Soul didn't also drain all your power. Aura can keep a body going, but without a Heart, feeling emotion is out of the picture. People without Souls, specifically Nobodies, can mimic emotions, putting on smiles, acting from what they know about, but empathy and free will aren't as easy to fake as a smile. People with no Hearts will often just do whatever their memories (If they still have them) or people they don't see as threats tell them to, often following commands without giving them much thought. Forming emotional connections can reignite someone's emotions, and form a new Heart overtime, but when you don't think or care about empathizing with someone beyond "What do you want me to do? I have no plans.", that's easier said than done. Granted, even someone losing their Heart can lead to some justice.

(Kairi, Pinocchio, Honest John, Gideon, and a bunch of donkeys are running out of Pleasure Island's park from Heartless)
The Coachman: (Crawling towards them, wounded from their fight)"WAIT, YOU'RE NOT LEAVING ME THAT EASILY!"
Kairi "Empty Heart" Mizu: "Oh right, I'm being thoughtless!(Uses her Keyblade to lock the park's door behind them, with the Coachman still inside with the hungry Heartless)There, now they won't get out and chase us! Come on!"(Casually heads towards the boats as John and Gideon stare in shock)

Collapsed Hearts-Collapsing a Heart is considered a final death in the Multiverse, brought on by varying circumstances, maybe a Soul's power is pushed to it's limit and can't take the stress, maybe it gave into despair and reached a low-point it'll never recover from, maybe someone has a weapon that can just cut through a Heart itself and went overboard with it. While the Soul is declared to be erased from existence when this happens, what becomes of the Heart's fragments afterwards depends on the Heart's nature. Those who embraced Corruption and evil face oblivion, and said forces can weaken a Soul to the point where collapsing is easier. A non-corrupt Heart's fragments find their way to Kingdom Hearts, with the chance of being revived almost non-existent. For what it's worth, being in Kingdom Hearts isn't so bad, but just collapsing a Soul just so it goes there is ill-advised. A body disconnected from its Heart, like Nobodies, can be spared cessation of existence, but if they're killed, they dissolve into the same place their Souls did, and never come back.

The Most Important Question-Yes, Hearts and Souls are the same thing, people on different worlds just call them different stuff.
