Description

A snippet of RP between the wonderful and most delectable Greensmille and myself. Aurelie and Ruaridh meeting for the first time. The illustration is his reaction to basically ANY form of physical contact .__. Suffice to say, it both confuses, and intrigues him? He's dubious to say the least, at any rate.

GAWD! Still getting used to this cartooning malarkey! 0-0 Wish my computer would allow me to run Sai Might help with my linework -huff-

The sun had begun to settle down over the summer fields, the warmth from the day still lingered in the air on the eastern island, the colors of the leaves had began to shift the greenery to a beautiful warmth mixture as the seasons began to change into fall, change..yes this was indeed a change. The former exile mare thought for herself. Though Aurelie knew she had done the right thing, for she would never want to see lovers part ways. That was the very reason for her choice to take the brave mare's Prime's place instead, something she didn't regret but she wasn't as brave herself. Even if she in the moment had held her head high, the unnerving looks she had caught from her new herd members made her poor little heart beat faster in angst. She felt like she was surrounded by grass beats!

Perhaps it was therefore she had tried her best to stay as far from them as possible, trying to keep as low profile, well as low of a profile as a 18.5 hh tall horse could. Not a easy task to be done. Especially not with so many curious eyes around her. Her own violate orbs had soon adverted towards a tiny sanctuary of trees. To which in comparison her size didn't seem as eye catching. For now it was only in the cover of the trees that she didn't feel like she was being watched from all directions. A snapping of a twig brought her to spin around with a anxious look on her face, had she already gotten herself into trouble? She squinted her eyes together afraid of what she might find as she turned around..but slowly her curiosity took over and she peeked thru one of her eyes as a splashing noise was caught by her twitching ears. I better not.. She thought to herself with her brows quirked in a conflicted matter thought she still trotted to the other side of the little group of trees. Carefully looking around like a cautious doe before she took a step out of her hiding spot. Her every sense on highest alert to try and find what it was that caused so many noises...

Quite what he'd been up to for the best part of the day was completely up for discussion. If time wasting was a job, you could've called Ru gainfully employed. As far as Ruaridh was concerned, the day had started with a mixture of grazing, scratching against the broken bark of various, carefully selected fallen stumps, and now? Now the sun had started to bleed through the rich, warm hues of reds and pinks, he found himself watching the rest of the bachelors brawling with a certain air of disinterest. Quite why they felt it necessary to assert their dominance over one another every conceivable hour of the day, was beyond him. There were far bigger fish to fry, like, well, something other than dancing around the plains taking chunks out of each other. He'd taken his leave pretty quickly, pacing back and forth and looking for a get-out was becoming a little boring as far as he was concerned, and with a flattening of his ears, and a deft snort, he turned on a sixpence and made off through the long grasses at a steady, effortless trot.

The column of his neck arched, but slackened and dropped the weight of his head. He allowed the charred velvet of his muzzle to skim heavily scented earth and the tickling tips of grass. His heavy hoof beats muffled by the tangled, dried roots of age old herbage.

Ru would be the one shadow that bled as ink over crisp green, kicking up dust and sod in his wake as he strode out with the confidence of a creature entirely in the knowledge of his surroundings, and steadfast in his footing despite losing the massive plates of his hooves deep with each step he threw out before him.

All the excitement and zeal of a colt, his heels kicked up and his sparse, two-toned tail held out as a proud banner behind him. The coat, a sandy colour with a gold hued sheen of health that rippled over the serpentine movements of muscles writhing beneath velvet. To say that the creature was formidable from a distance would be perhaps, selling him short. Ruaridh had spent so much time walking around groups of bickering mares and stallions, that getting out for a leg-stretch was more than certainly on the cards. He tore through the breeze in a flurry of espresso and cream crimped silk threads that spiraled and bounced away from the curve of his roman nose. His chin practically pressed against his brisket, with his ears pricked firmly forwards.

With each fluid, graceful forward punching of limbs, the powerful bellows of his lungs heaved frigid air through dilated nares, air which he expelled in violent snorted streams. Those that were allowed to leave of their own accord rose in spiralling tendrils of silvered breath that dissipated far above his head. The sound of snapping twigs, and complaining boughs in the distance rang like a dog whistle against his eardrum. It brought his carefree canter across the scrub land to a brisk halt.

Ru dug the massive concave bulk of his hooves deep into the earth and pretty much skidded to a stop. He flicked his head curtly, and snorted as he made several attempts at focussing on the gaps between the trees, through the thick, unkempt waves of his forelock. He tossed his head again, this time releasing a soft throaty nickering sound of curiousness that vibrated the edges of his nostrils and pulled his muzzle into a momentary sneer. It was a sneer which erased itself almost as soon as it had materialized, he practically shook it off along with making yet another attempt at rearranging his forelock by bobbing his head.

"...Someone there?" The warm cadence of his voice passed gently between his lips. He frowned, angling his head ever so slightly, ear tips pressed together as he took a hesitant step towards the dappled shade of the copse.

"Y'know those hormone filled asses have got their hooves full at the moment, you can come out. It's fairly safe..." He chuckled, green-blue eyes narrowing against thea glare from an evening sun.

Don't stop.. The dunalino almost pleaded as she watched the equine with horror intensifying in her eyes with each step as the stallion stride forward. There was a certain smoothness in his body language of which she found herself maybe looking just a little too long ever his bulging muscles as he did. Did all these brutes eat something special that made them all just over expand with their athletic, brute but undeniable..attractive? She felt like a traitor towards her old herd for admitting it if only to herself that these horses did have something special about themselves.

Aurelie almost flinched at the voice calling out to her, instantly pressing her massive body against the bark of the trees. Her breathing hacking up as her pulse rose, almost as if she had been caught as a foal trying to get away with a prank. The fright almost blocked out his words and hadn't it been for the warmth in his tune she might just have missed to take note of his clear disapprove of the other stallions actions. Wasn't he one of them? The mare remained silent but her ears twitched as the brute began to chuckle declaring that it was safe for her to come out from her hideaway. Aurelie quirked her brows and slowly a roman muzzle emerged from the shadows into the last rays of daylight.

It wasn't long until more of her face became noticeable from the safety of the tree's. Her eyes flickered a little due to the sun gazing into her eyes, this far she could only see the statue of the other, to her relief it was a smaller equine that herself. Maybe I could just sit on him if her tries anything... The thought made her smile a little seeing as how it reminded her of the high guard for whom she was now to be kept at this herd. She couldn't stay away from accounting the stallions of this herd and she didn't want to show just how uneasy they made her though they this far had given her little reason to fear them.. She had hopes for that her size would keep most of them at bay if nothing else she had never been that lucky with stallions before so maybe her natural self was enough to dismount even the biggest brute? Though she obviously didn't dare to risk it she had heard to many tales about the ferocious and bloody deeds of this steeds.

As she reluctantly took a step further away from the cover she angled her roman nose inward towards her chest so that her beautiful dark long locks ended up falling like a dark golden waterfall over her watery eyes. If only to attempt to coax herself into the belief that she could just disappear into thin air if she so desired. However as she perked thru the curls her violet tinkering eyes landed on his unscarred forehead. Could it be that he wasn't a bachelor?! Her heart began thrumming at the naive but happy thought that he might be a rouge loner passing by, then his own speak of the brutes would make more sense..Was this the face of her own savior? Her curiosity took over and she cleared her throat to speak with a low but a soft and smooth voice almost a little too eager to see if her suspicions about this stallion was rightly so. "..umm, may I have y-your..name, sir?"

That couldn't be a wrong thing to ask as a newcomer, could it? Maybe she should just call them all sirs? As she spoke the willowy and voluptuous mare dared to take a few steps closer to the stallion, her feathered hooves danced despite her weight fairly easily over the grassy terrain. If you where to compare this with the dead barrened ground from the South Island was this landscape truly a paradise in which even larger horses like herself could keep a certain grace in her movements.

The soft tones that coiled through the dusk air, tinkling like silver bells, caught his imagination. Her voice snagged his attention like the savage barbs of a hook through the supple mouth of an unexpecting trout in the glassy stillness of a lake. Ruaridh couldn't help but quirk a brow. The female's behaviour was rather baffling. Her scent wasn't one that he'd committed to memory, certainly not one he remembered. This coupled with the fact that she was making valiant attempts at remaining concealed within the thick brush of the copse, using the dappled light cast through tightly knitted branches and the overlap of leaves as camouflage, meant she was new. Everything about her demeanour, even down to the uncertainty that bled through her voice, screamed apprehension. In his mind, she was sensible. There would be few others of the 'atypical' mindset available to break her into the bachelor herd gently. Despite his gruffness, and despite the drawl, Ruaridh was one of those.

Once her question had a chance to sink deep into the tissues of his mind, and soak along the long and insulated axons to mingle with his thought processes, the points of his ears slowly separated, and swung to point backward. His ears flattened in uncertainty, and he angled his head just so he could regard her from an angle that betrayed the dappled shadow in which she revelled. The deep turquoise of his eyes narrowed to querying crescents, and he huffed a deep, soul filled sigh in response.

"My name...?" The gravelled edge of his tones concealed the amusement that danced, well concealed, across his otherwise statuesque features. He couldn't help but chuckle, the warm rumble and roundness of sound played at the back of his throat as he straightened his posture. He pulled his head higher, ears floating forwards and pressing with interest against the taller female as she slipped from the shadows. Quite honestly, he nearly balked. In that moment, he felt the whispers of Napoleon complex developing deep in his core. He swallowed, subconsciously shuffling a half step backwards, his jaw subtly agape before he remembered himself-

"I- uh... Ruaridh..." He uttered softly, shaking his head and sending the threads of his bi-toned forelock into a frenzy. He inclined his head in a little-seen bow of respect, tossing his head again to rid is view of the obstruction. He regarded her for a moment, simply taking her in.

Whilst the screams and scuffles of the stallions in the background continued, he gave the fray a sideways glance and couldn't help the smirk that tugged his lips into a lopsided smile. He rolled his eyes, and shook his head in exasperated amusement. His weight shifted, his right hind cocked to a more restful position, and his attention swung effortlessly back to the mare between the trunks.

"Now then. You have my name, which gives you unfair advantage-" He smiled charmingly, bobbing his head and giving a light wuffle of a snort that curled away from cavernous nostrils as tendrils of mist- "...What might I call you?"

Despite the fact that most of her face remained hidden behind the golden dipped forelocks the mare had a relatively good view on the little stud muffin, in all honesty his size made her feel a little more comfortable than what she might have been towards a bulkier bundle of muscles. Even so this one had his own ripping features that could cause any mare to take a second glare. A almost smug smile spread on her muzzle as he appeared to be close to flinching at the first sight of her. Going as far as to retort a little, it was a bitter sweet thing for her. It was a nice thing that she could use it to her advantage but in the romantic heart of hers it felt like just one more rejection from a stallion. Though she wondered why that was, did she look that intimidating? Once the buckskin seemed to have snapped out of his little moment of..awe? He took back her focus as his lips parted, her ears flickered towards him in a alert way while her sight lingered down towards the grass.

"Ruaridh.." She repeated for herself in a sweet whisper, his name ringed foreign in her ears something ancient and a little mysterious.. much like this new land. The stallions demeanor shifted into it's natural pose of a more relaxed though authority held one, was this something he had adapted to within the herd or was it something he had grown up with? It was far from the relaxing postures her own herd held..less military and stiff. No..there was more to this one, a shy snicker threatened to escape her at his little bow. For being a brute his quite the gentleman.. Aurelie shook her head a little confused about this, then again she didn't know many bachelors from any other content than the stories told by her herd members.
At the mixed grunts and screens from the group the mare swung her head back towards the safety of the trees. It was silly she knew but more than anything she wished to remain unseen from such massive testosterone filled wildings, no matter how handsome they might be. No matter what she knew she shouldn't trust them, they were evil..nothing but pure evil- Her thoughts got cut off by the stallion's voice.

As she swiftly turned her focus back to him her covering mane flew out of her face to reveal those saddened purple toned eyes, covered by a thick lash that blinked a little rapidly as she realized her little miss slip. With a light nibble on her own lips she felt her cheeks fluster up in a rosy blush. She knew all too well what the bachelors used for sort of name to their mares...brood. But I am not one of them.. Aurelie thought with a shallow gulp, she didn't know what she was expected to do in this herd but from the looks of it neither did they. Perhaps if she could just keep a low profile that would remain the case. Unfair advantage..she felt like she could use any advantage offered to her at this point. But he seemed sincere enough almost..kind.

"I would like for you to call me by my name, sir. M-my name is... Aurelie." She moved one of her front legs forward to rest on it in a polite deep bow. Slowly as she backed up she looked to her sides..this far they seemed to remain alone, it was a little hesitantly but she took a step closer to the stallion. "D-don''t take this the wrong way but you..don't seem like the Bachelor my herd tells so many horrible stories of...my mother had this saying, that you could see the nature of a equine in its eyes." Her words trailed off into a soft sigh, she missed to have her parents around her even more so the comfort from the herd was something that made her feel even more vulnerable. Gazing over the brute she slowly closed the distance between them, Ruaridh didn't frighten her as much as the others..

"May I?" She asked before she reached out to gently place her silky muzzle against his frizzy bangs, almost touching the freckled skin on his forehead as she slowly moved his hair out of his eyes. Her own amethyst orbs softened as they caught the calming tone of the turquoise eyes.. A thrumming beat steady in her chest as the mare lingered in that moment just a little longer than what might be comfortable, heat rushing to her round cheeks.. His eyes were like a lake seemingly without an end of wonder and secrets. And something she couldn't place a word on..tilting her head the mare folded back her ears at the alarming noises from his fellow brutes. Though they where a needed reminder that she needed to stay sharp. Backing up she looked past the buckskin and down to the others..what were they even doing?
