Regardless of the fact that some very religious people sometimes put their statues of saints upside down in order to force the saints (using Catholics "saints" to illustrate the idea, just because they are widely know) to perform their magic , or to do so faster, nowadays religion is strongly associated whit submission. Pray seems to demand for most to assume an attitude of submission and self-abasement, as sincere as possible: what even made someone write more or less that "God" is just the human imaginary equivalent to a big silverback gorilla.
