No, they aren't eggs, they're just juvenile flowers that haven't bloomed yet, although it appears that these flowers also have psychic parts on them similar to the eggs, might not want to slow down to smell these flowers, or it may be the last free act you'll make.

I gave them the same sort of psychic amplifier as the eggs, so they can act as proximity attractors to humans drawing them deeper into hive-assimilated territory? Probably that and infectious spores ^^

I'd imagine the cores draw the person/creature in, and the flower releases spores once they are close enough to breathe them in. The spores would be slow-acting and probably allow enough time for the person/creature to go back and lure others into the flower's psychic radius.
(As for the "trees" I imagine they're made of TF goo and can pretty freely transition between a liquid and solid state (which is why they drip) so they can burrow roots through buildings/barriers and turn into running goo once inside (or simply drip goo on people from overhead lol). The grasses act like hive antennae and let the hive mind/nearby drones know when an unassimilated person goes through)
