So what happens after the whole planet's been terraformed and everybody's been turned into Formidrons?

Depends! If the Formidrons have assimilated intelligent beings capable of space travel, then the assimilated planet's resources are devoted toward finding the next world to assimilate. If the Formidrons are at war anywhere in the galaxy, then the resources go towards making more troops. If they hit a dead-end, then the planet gets converted into a low-energy, efficient ecosystem with very few active Formidron life forms, but sort of a "savings bank" of genetic material and dormant eggs, so that if the planet ever faces any changes, the hive can quickly produce adapted life-forms.
Essentially the goal of the Formidrons is to become an evolutionarily dominant organism, with a singleminded goal of assimilation and expansion--kind of like how bacteria just multiplies endlessly.

I see. So they seek only to make more of themselves, and that's it. There's no greater purpose they're trying to achieve by increasing their numbers- they just reproduce for reproduction's sake. Invading planets and changing everything there into more of them, over and over and over again, like an interplanetary virus.
