Finally got around to color this. It doesn't exactly look how I imagined it, but I'm still learning to use Photoshop properly and don't just smear around with the brushes.
Criticism is welcome.
Edit 2.1.2015: The effects annoyed me and looked nothing like I wanted them to. I like it better now.

I was a bit disappointed to see this had so many views without a critique, especially for an artist of your caliber who is always interested in improving (even with all the talent you already have).
Considering you are still in the learning process of Photoshop, from your description (which absolutely blows me away, because this remains far better than anything I could produce from a technical aspect, and I've been using Photoshop for a couple years), you have done an exceptional job at displaying technical prowess with the program, as well as utilizing color and design theories to your advantage. Though the orange creates a slight imbalance of color when compared to the overall image, when actually viewing the object of focus, the piece remains balanced. The subtle orange hues in the background/blurred foreground help unify it a bit, but a bit more orange might have helped complete that unification (such as a subtle, orange tinge to the wall's color, with blue tones within the shadows). Regardless, how the orange, reds, and yellows were infused into the artwork was sufficient enough in maintaining general balance. Your paint strokes were will executed, and your textures very dynamic and appealing. On top of that, your sense of shape and depth showed pretty well (though they may have been deminished by the darkness of the surrounding void). From a technical standpoint, you did an exceptional job of demonstrating an ability to utilize Photoshop to its fullest potential, and execute theory in sufficient manner.
When it comes to vision and the use of themes, there wasn't much room for you to work with when doing a piece of this nature, so its a very uphill battle. Obviously the physique and posture of creature are beautifully designed and rendered, but for me, the purpose of the image did not extend beyond enhancing the appeal to the creature (it felt sort of like an ode to the dragonesque reptile, but offered a small impression of its complete nature). The pose and positioning itself were not necessarily dynamic, but fulfilled its purpose as a portrait of sorts. In short, it was indicative of its darker origins, but lent little towards its psychology, emotions, history, perceptions, or other extensive concepts.
Despite that, the originality of the creature's design is significant, and apparent. Even the hinted aspects of the creature's biology, such as its energetic glow or fiery concoction of what appears to be a plasma-like dragon breath. The exoskeletal structure of the head along with the plated body scales compliment extremely well, and the ram horns were a perfect touch to give a sense of demonic or unworldy inspiration. Your choices of color were also superb and eye-catching. With a unique, dynamic pose, and maybe an interesting environment to compliment it, would give justice to the full creativity of your design.
Again, this is just my view. I hold to certain viewpoints of artwork (whether they be accurate or misguided), and my views alone do not lend to the quality of work presented. When I critique, I try to critique to the artist's level, and in this case I am probably a bit out of my league. This is a talented artist! However, I do feel they are capable of taking this character/design to even greater levels, and I hope to see more of their work in the future. This is a very good piece of artwork, and no one should take that for granted. Well done, and keep up the amazing work!

He's my sona, therefore his name is Dae-Thalin and he is a Hyracidi which is a species of dragonoid space creatures I developed(or am still developing)
