Description
As much as I'll sound like an ass for this...I seriously hate this! You don't take the time to thank you, instead you... give them a llama badge... great...
Honestly, I don't like the llama badge system. Why? Because it encourages people to do dumb stuff like this:
- "Fave my stuff and I'll give you a llama!"
- "Give me a llama and I'll fave your stuff!"
- "I'm going to go around and give lots of llamas to people in the hopes they'll check out my page!"
And these are a few short examples.
Now, I'll confess if someone gives me a llama, no matter what reason, I'll give one back. I consider it polite.
BUT WHEN YOU GIVE A LLAMA TO SOMEONE INSTEAD OF SAYING THANKS FOR THE FAVE OR THANKS FOR THE WATCH, YOU MAKE ME WANT TO CRUSH YOUR HEAD WITH A STEAMROLLER!
And that is all.

I prefer a Watch, a Fav or some Core Points more than Llamas
Seriously, I'm sick of these things

I dislike them because I often get them from the "get a Llama, give a Llama back" supporters. Β
I only give them as birthday gifts, if I don't have points, or to quickly say thanks.Β

I have had another account a few years ago, for about two years, and back then I only got a llama from a random person one time. But now I often get llamas from random people. I think llamas are okay when you have in a way talked (written) a bit with a person and then you give them a llama to show them that you kind of like them.

None, really. Since posting this, my llama growth hasn't changed. It's still at the same pace.

Nah, it's a 'standard walking sprite' from Star Ocean 2, which is probably the single-heaviest influence on my way of thinking about 'characterisation' in video games.
Specifically, it's Precis, who gave me the deepest and longest-lasting 'character crush' I've ever had.
It was 1999. We were both 16.
I never quite got over her.

I thank people for comments but not for faves. Most of the artists, included me, do not like that anyway.

I know a number of artists who like getting favs, as they see it as a means of tracking how well liked their individual work is. I'll thank people for both (Though I often fall behind on the favs and then will eventually spend a period of a week playing catch up), since it also shows you're willing to do a bit more for people that like your stuff. But I would say, I'd rather nothing than a llama for a fav.

Acayth In reply to hythrain [2012-12-02 09:24:08 +0000 UTC]
Well I know plenty of people who agree on my opinion, too. I just think its a matter of the position. I do not force people to fave my work, if they do, than its their decision. Of course IΒ΄m thankful for it but IΒ΄d rather spend more time in drawing to make their fave worth it instead of spending time to thank hundrets of favorites per week. Instead I sometimes take a look over their page. Maybe I can fav something to. If not, than the artist has at least some pageviews more.

It can vary from person to person. Because I make stories, I like to have people repeatedly check out my stuff and try and get into it. Thanking people for individual favs is a great way for me to do this. In the past few days, I think I've thanked some 100+ people for faving stuff related to just one of my stories. A small line mentioning how they're from a story and that they should check out more and see if they like it has allowed me to gain 12 more followers.
So that's how I judge it. It's immensely time consuming (Took me about 3 hours to cover them all). But now, not only do 100+ people know I thanked them for faving my stuff, but they also know there's more to it than what they might've faved and that I'm working on having a manga being made of the characters in the art they faved. So how does one judge it?

I can understand your point there, but I personally have an other view onto it:
When IΒ΄m faving an artists work, I donΒ΄t need to be thanked for because ts my personal choise to fave. I donΒ΄t need to see a "thank you" on my page because you can also see it in a way that people are "featuring" their own account on your profile. Like "Hey, that artist has faved my work, check it out, maybe its also something for you". And since its exactly the same as all the advertising comments on youtube videos, I see thankful comments in a negative way.
π: 0 β©: 1
hythrain In reply to Acayth [2012-12-06 16:01:42 +0000 UTC]
In terms of the featuring thing, if I see signs that someone doesn't want to be thanked for a fav (either by something clear that says "don't thank me for faves" or if I see a lot of "comment hidden by owner"), I'll respect that and not post my thanking them. Likewise, if I ever feel like someone thanks me for a fav with the intent to just feature themself, I'll hide the comment.
I suppose it's an issue of treating people how you want to be treated. I'll thank people for faving my work as, with the exception of really popular people, I'm used to them thanking me. But I won't cop out and just give a llama, so I don't expect people to do that to me.

Acayth In reply to hythrain [2012-12-06 16:10:20 +0000 UTC]
Well thats the problem for me. Because I have already a huge bock right over my page which tells that I do not want any "thank you" comments on my front page and still people arenΒ΄t stopping thanking me for faves or llamas. These people are the reason why I almost completely stopped faving work from people who are not so known because they tend to thank me more often than artists who are already known.

I've just never been a fan of the llama system. I think that's why I don't like it when people use llamas for saying thanks (I also habitually will give a llama to anyone who gives me a llama, so it naturally negates itself. @_@)

Well, that's not my issue. If someone gives me a llama, I'll give one back. However, what I dislike is when I'll fav or watch someone, and rather than them taking the time to make a nice reply saying they thank me, they'll give me a llama. They spent the time to go to my page anyway, they could take a few more seconds to type a quick message.

I know! There are so many better ways to thank someone besides a darn llama! D:
Personally, my favorite method is checking their gallery and, if I find I like their stuff I'll fave something or even watch them (After thanking them, of course, because I got time to buuurn!)

You could've received nothing at all, though. Some people hate getting thanked for faving/watching too. It's kind of a lose-lose situation
π: 0 β©: 1
hythrain In reply to Siriah [2011-02-13 21:40:33 +0000 UTC]
Honestly? I'd rather nothing.
If someone wants to randomly give me a llama badge, sure. If someone is giving it to me because I watched them or faved something of theirs and they aren't making a thank you comment, then the rage turns on.
To do nothing at all means either "I'm too busy", "I get too many favs/watches" or "I'm too lazy," usually the first as you'll find only people who are stupid popular and people who are usually very busy due to things like work won't do anything. If they don't say thanks, I naturally attribute it to "They must be busy or getting too many favs and such to keep up" even though it could be they're lazy.
A llama badge, though, says "I'm not busy and I'm not swarmed, I'm just too damn lazy to type." This actually DOES say you're lazy, no matter what. If you have the time to give a badge, you have the time to give a thank you comment.
As for people who hate being thanked for a fav or a watch? They usually put it on their page "Don't thank me for a fav/watch," and they tend to flag any comments that DO thank them for the fav/watch as spam. To date, I've only had one person fav me who didn't want to be thanked, and I initially noticed because all the comments were flagged as spam. A quick look up and I saw "Don't thank me for a fav/watch!" So I didn't.
π: 0 β©: 1
Siriah In reply to hythrain [2011-02-13 22:02:23 +0000 UTC]
I wouldn't interpret it that way, more like "I chose to visit your page out of appreciation of your fav/watch, but decided against posting a comment that has nothing to do with your gallery". It can be a depressing sight to see a front page which is completely filled with thank-you notes that add nothing personal.
