Description

Entry 28, sneaking in before we get to the OC-to-COs post tomorrow, we have a special little nugget of fun, and by nugget I mean FRAGMENT OF A UNIVERSE-SCALE ENTITY IN CONTROL OF ALL THINGS MATTER. This particular speck of the entity having been given the ability to shape its own volume however it pleases, unbound by the limitations of atomic mass or physical feasibility. If it exists, Morpheus here can turn himself into it if he so desired. Rock features, crystalline structures, gas clouds, technology, abstract concepts that defy physics as we know it like from Evangelion. So long as it fits within a 25 cubic foot volume, it may as well be him if he so chose. The OTHER major ability of his... is extended warping AND STABILIZING of the fabric of space-time around him. Any sort of warping of the physical plane, like mass distortions of the conceivable, spacial contortions like fractures or wormholes, chaotic energy fields, abominations that amalgamate any of the above. They are all possible, if he so chooses, and he can also PREVENT others from doing so if he so wanted. He is - for lack of better terms - a god of physical space.

That being said... as always... the doc link and description.

Basic Info:

Name: Morpheus

Race: Primordial Spatial Fragment

Gender: N/A (Prefers male pronouns)
Age: N/A (technically ageless)

Height: Nondefinative

Weight: Nondefinative

VOLUME?: Roughly 25 cubic feet

Other: Contains a permanent core that stores Morpheus’ sentience, mana, and life force. The core itself is a 4”-across, self-suspending orb of a glowing crystal-like material, not necessarily fragile, but still simple enough to break, so it is almost always (like 99% of the time) encased in a 4”-thick sphere of ridiculously durable materials to keep it safe, though its integrity can be compromised from the rest of the body taking too much punishment or from becoming too fatigued.

Abilities:

- Matter Impermanence: Much like shapeshifting, Morpheus is able to completely alter the physical form and material composition of the mass that is established to be Morpheus’ body, though this mass cannot be of radioactive material and must always be something visible (dense fog/smoke would count, for instance, which is the default when damaged) and remain directly connected as one singular entity. This has very low mana/energy cost and no limitations outside of volume and what the material composition is capable of. It can vary from something as simple as a pile of rocks (although they’d have to be fused together) to something as advanced as a sci-fi supercomputer-powered war machine, though mana/energy-based attacks would of course take from internal energy and the supply of physical ammunition would have to be acquired separately. The form taken can determine most other abilities, especially physical abilities.

- Basic+ Elemental Magic: Capable of using several forms of Elemental magic. While having high power in this regard, the conjurations are very basic. These would be the following:

  • Large explosive fireballs that leave behind smoldering craters roughly 10 feet in diameter

  • Charged lightning blasts that can chain to multiple targets within about 15 feet from each other

  • Projected torrents of water, radius of up to 2 feet, duration of up to 30 seconds

  • Blue-ice spikes that can perforate most targets (including lightly armored ones) at a rapid pace

  • Earthquake stomps, magnitude of 2 - 4 on the Richter Scale, charges/lasts for ≤5 seconds

  • Gale-force wind projection, able to output a pushing force of up to 4 tons with a reach of 30 feet

  • Light-based flares with such concentration that they have the same effects as holy magic

  • Shadow-stepping, the ability to use shadows to quickly move from one location to another

  • Gravity pulses that forcefully pull in or push away anything within a 20 foot radius

- Diviner: Ability to gauge the mana/energy levels of others, though this on its own doesn’t reveal output potential of any sort. Given what this ability does, it also renders any means of reducing visibility to him virtually impossible.

- Spatial Catalyst: With about 10% of his mana and life energy combined, causes a violent spatial distortion of some chosen form, originating directly from the core. Connecting blows with this saps half (or half of the of the portion’s equivalent) energy from the targets and displaces it back into the core. This is not dependent on how much the target has, which can result in adverse effects to said target. For instance, if the target doesn’t have the energy potential that would be equivalent to the effect, there’s a high chance of being drained completely (Morpheus avoids doing this, however, as he deems this as unfair).

- Spatial Lockdown: Stabilizes and negates any and all distortion in space-time in a large area around Morpheus passively, though this can be optionally deactivated. This typically doesn’t use that much energy, hence being able to be kept on the passive side of abilities.

- Mana Pool: Mana capacity is very large, and regeneration is also very high early on, though the latter drops off to half the rate when at half capacity. Compared to the average mage, mana capacity would be about 400%, and regeneration rate would be able to restore mana capacity to full in about twelve minutes from “empty,” factoring in both rates involved.

Fighting Style:

Usually stays hidden until inclined to act, but never initializes with the element of surprise, preferring to make it known that he is present and why he is present to drive anyone away. Once this is established, he will decide how to go about things, be it challenging them to square off or to simply attack anyways without indication to, by how he is interacted with. This will also be how he gauges what sort of battle will take place. For instance, he will take a configuration that implies directly hard-countering a person and attacking straight away if said person isn’t to his liking, even if there are multiple present. He’ll be inclined to go easier on those who are more to his liking, though he would naturally respect if those he is in favor of would prefer going all out.

As for actual fighting styles, he prefers to match the individual or the overall consistency of a group, strength-wise. Magic-vs-magic, tech-vs-tech, physical-vs-physical, etc. The form taken will normally either match the overall approach of the opposition or outright hard-counter as he so chooses, though he’ll take a hard-countered approach instead as a means of going easy on his opposition if he has a particular liking towards them.

Fight ends either if his opponents are dead or if they’ve managed to whittle him down to a certain degree (about 33%), to which he will offer to abstain from further conflict until they have left the area. If they try to continue the fight, however, he will either return the favor by also continuing with no holds barred whatsoever or follow through with his word by withdrawing in whatever way he can.

Personality:

Morpheus is what you might call a “man of power”, if you can call him a man to begin with. If it’s power you have, he will want to know how well you can use it. If it’s skill you have, he will want to know how well it scales with the power you have. Above all, however, he will want to try to find out how your abilities fare against his. That being said, he considers himself far too honorable to simply overpower someone outright and with no fighting chance, he’d much rather make it as clear as possible that both he and whomever he has as his opponent(s) are both aware of and ready to throw down. To anyone that can survive his onslaught, let alone be able to best him, he will gladly offer his respect, though not so much to those who would quickly try to take advantage of this. In fact, those who attempt to finish what they started will only anger him greatly, and how the fight thus far had fared will be the sole determining factor of whether he will show them just how furious one can be or if he will instead flee to recover. Rest assured, however, that if this is the choice that is made, he will certainly remember it, and those who cross him will not be given such generosity a second time. As far as those he finds respectable, however, by all means, he’ll gladly part ways with any of the spoils of the caves he dwells in, it’s not as though he has actual use for any of it to begin with, plus they do regenerate over time, so it’s no actual loss on his part.

Backstory:

The core fragment is but a small piece of a colossal primordial entity that is, in a manner of speaking, its own whole universe. Crystalline yet fluid in shape, the entity in question is truthfully the core of such a universe as it embodied and controlled virtually all that surrounded it like a glassy nucleus of a celestial cell. Implications aside, you would think that such a being wouldn’t possibly have such trivial thoughts as curiosity or inquisitive nature, yet here we are, with this ever so tiny piece of it within our midst.

In short, the entity started to grow bored of the seemingly infinite things it could arrange, create, destroy, and control within its domain. It started to experiment with breaching into other universes to see if it could test the limits of universal boundaries and how it may further expand its many activities in doing so, though safe to say that it found quickly that there are universes that exist much like its own, with other beings of universal standings. Some weaker, sure, but also some equal or even stronger, so it deduced that it would be appropriate to see these other universal beings as peers to some degree and consider a more… tactful approach.

The entity took up a name for itself, choosing - in understandable terms - “Morph.” Of course, the actual name itself is more difficult to depict or remember, so let’s leave it at the English variant for now. Morph happened across several who certainly appreciated the restraint, few even took part in its curiosities, though one more distant individual of this standing was more reluctant. To accommodate, however, Morph proposed a small-scale alternative that was eventually agreed upon.

A tiny piece of Morph, disconnected from its own conscious influence, was dropped upon the realm’s signature planet. The impact from this portion proved to be only barely stable, resulting in an isolated underground region to be cracked and distorted in space-time, creating many different spatial phenomena that have led natives to this world to dub this region “The Cataclysmic Caves.” This fragment of Morph, incidentally dubbed “Morpheus,” would awaken in the center of these caves, amidst a vast cavern of ores and minerals, and be flooded with information about this world and the inhabitants. This filled Morpheus with a curiosity much like that which fuels the entity that spawned him, but to a different context, a curiosity of what sort of powers here could potentially match his own, how he would come to wield his own, what he could harness from the doings of his own.

And so, the small Spatial Fragment of a Primordial entity from another universe awaits those who might challenge him…
