In legand Nibi or the Nekomata was a 2 tailed cat (duh)
There were two in myth (although only one in naruto) One was evil, and one was pure. The good nekomata was friendly, curious and kind and had the ability to disguise itself as a young girl. The evil nekomata was harsh, cold and mischivious and would disguise itself as an ugly old woman. It was also told to be The pet of the Japanease god of death, Shimigami. (not the shimigamis from deathnote)

Often Nekomatas were drawn with wings, and were also told to have a third eye. The one I drew is a naruto version.
other famous nekomatas could be Espeon (Pokemon) and Kiara (inuyasha)
