So here is my second of three Pokegirls in my postcard series! You guys probably saw this one coming... and yes, I ship her with Ash! This is actually a collaboration with my partner, , who has kindly made a guest appearance in my postcard series! We had a lot of fun doing this, in fact, we sat together for hours listening to Pokemon The Movie soundtrack while I was line-arting and colouring his sketch.
Anyway, I'm very happy that R3d wanted to take part in my postcard series. He's just as passionate about vintage things as I am, and together we made this, and I must say I really love how it turned out. I always enjoy working with him, but this time it felt like we were a couple of kids using crayons together - it was so liberating and rejuvenating working on Pokemon fanart together. I haven't done that since I coloured his drawing of us together on a Pokemon journey, as a surprise to him for our anniversary:
So crazy that he drew this when we were still best friends! But he totally had a crush on me at this point, but don't tell anyone. x3
The Pokemon movies are quite special to R3d and I, in fact we marathoned almost all of them. I say almost because we DID try ALL of them but eventually we couldn't take any more. Our favourite is the first movie, it's just so original, dark and harshly realistic in terms of death, power, greed, etc. It really is quite a unique movie in itself, I can't really think of any other like it. I can't remember how far we got in the movie list, I think we got to the one with the ranger... where Ash becomes like, king of the sea and flies in the sky in a gold beam. Oh Misty.... You are totally stealing the show. Taking people back to a time when everything was perfect in an alluring manner. Nostalgia is so powerful. But also your beautiful colors, shading and background, darling :3 <3

Hehe, thanks, I had a lot of fun colouring it in this vintage way. When I want to add a vintage touch to a colour, I actually try to mix it with mild sepia. It's really hard to do from a colour wheel.

You know the sepia texture actually give this an unexpected layer of extra shading, which is damn nice

What a great idea, actually. The combination of a pin-up inspired look, the vector-like lines and flats, and the well done soft shading means there's a lot to like here. Looking at how it all comes together, it definitely has a classical charm to it, but it's also very "cool," too. Whether you're a fan of vintage or more modern photos, this one manages to catch the eye.
The little touches, like the Pokeball waistband/belt and the different color nails manages to keep this very well within Misty's character. And for good measure, the "Catch me if you can" line puts the pin-up/Pokemon combo together wonderfully.
Very good work in putting this together. Here's hoping your series of postcards continues to get better with each new piece!

I'm truly flattered you like the line-art and colours, I sometimes lack confidence when doing it. I personally am really into vintage style, it's a passion, so I do try very, very hard when drawing stuff within that criteria.
I agree with you on R3d's design on the waistband, he just put that in on instinct and they add that little detail that goes a long way. I actually didn't even think to colour them red, I thought blue would be so Misty you know? The nail colours, funnily enough, were the first thing I coloured. I myself am into nail art, and when I saw those nails I was like "give me naoooo"; I wanted them bold and bright, just like Misty herself.
I did hesitate with the sultry-ness of this at first because Misty is 12 in the series but in my headcanon (hahaha), this is about 6/7 years in the future and she's sending him a postcard. The slogan, which R3d thought up actually, kind of hints at a more familiar thing between the two characters, don't you think? I like to believe that Ash and Misty eventually hook up.

As for the sultry-ness of the piece, as you put it, I don't find this very over the top. Besides the pin-up pose and the lip marks, there really isn't a lot suggestive. As for the remark on the card, it also works from the perspective that Ash and Misty are rivals of sorts, so there are certainly less 'intimate' ways to look at what you've done if that's what it takes to enjoy the piece.
As a whole, I think you went about this in a way that is pretty tasteful, regardless of the situation that revolves around the character age and theme. Again, it's the balance between "classic" and "cool" that keeps everything in order here. Since you brought it up, I thought it would be okay to add yet another thought. Hope you don't mind it, and perhaps this won't be the only time I respond to one of your works.

Wow, you're right with the phrase - it does indicate rivalry, which was quite evident in the cartoon. R3dFiVe is actually the one who sketched her, so I guess he already had in mind what was appropriate. I'm just a worry-er, I worry day and night. xD
I am glad you see this as tasteful, when I saw the sketch I actually thought the same thing. Just the fact that she is in a bikini is what made me wary, but with my refreshed perspective from you, her bikini looks more like sports gear, especially the bottom half, which might be adding to the "cool" aspect.

For the record, I'm pretty sure Misty debuted in the games wearing a bikini and has sported them several times throughout the anime series as well. There was also that highly suggestive 'swimsuit' she wore in the early issue Japanese manga, so the history is definitely there. What she's wearing here can be seem as fairly tame, by comparison.

Ohhh I forgot about the manga! Some of the stuff in there is rather questionable! I'm aware of her bikini outfits in the game, but she was much smaller-chested then. Here, that isn't the case.
I personally loved her Goldeen dress.
