Description
Another picture of my wyngling, Rosewink. I also included Azeal (the red one) who belongs to .Sorry the characters aren't shaded, my parents started fighting right in my doorway and I got too upset to keep drawing (and I'm still crying right now, oops). I am still awful at backgrounds.
This is for the weekly prompt where you draw your Wyngro swimming.
I am also adding a story to go with this picture:
It was summer in Wynsiph, and a particularly hot summer at that. Rosewink, a little pink Wyngling with soft lavender eyes and black toes that looked as if she had stepped in the midnight sky, was less than pleased with the soaring temperature.
"WHY does it have to be so hot?" she demanded of no one, as she lay alone, sprawled under the shade of a tree. She was very sensitive to her environment and could not tolerate high levels of cold or heat. Unfortunately she had hatched just around the beginning of the hottest season, so she had a long wait ahead of her before the weather started cooling down.
Rosewink let out a long sigh and wiped a trickle of sweat off her forehead. "Just how am I supposed to keep cool?" she wondered aloud, just as another Wyngling happened to be passing by.
"Hello," the unfamiliar Wyngling said. Rosewink shifted her head to look at him. He was a lovely shade of red, with bright cyan eyes and toes.
"Oh, hi," Rosewink greeted wearily. "Who are you?"
"Well, I'm Azeal," he responded. "How about you?"
Rosewink heaved herself to her feet to strike a more presentable pose. "My name is Rosewink. You might have heard of me."
Azeal tipped his head. "Actually, I haven't."
Rosewink pouted.
Then he said, "But I did hear you complaining about the heat. I get ya, but don't worry, summer will only last a few months."
"That's lovely and all, but I think I'd surely burn to a crisp by then," Rosewink replied.
"Then why don't you go swimming?" Azlea asked. "It's what everybody else is doing. In fact, I was just heading to the beach myself."
"Swimming? I've never done that before," Rosewink murmured, "but it's worth a shot. Anything to cool down! And how hard can it be?"
"Actually, it can be pretty difficult at first. I might have to help you," Azeal warned. He paused. "And by helping, I mean, helping to find someone who would be able to give you lessons. I just wanna chill rather than teaching someone else to swim."
"Oh, don't you worry about that, I assure you I'll be a natural," Rosewink insisted. "Now, let's go!"
And so the two Wynglings made their way to the seaside, happily chatting along the way. When they arrived, there were already quite a few other Wyngrew making a splash. This was Rosewink's first time at the beach, and she loved how the sand crunched beneath her paws. She watched the other Wyngrew swim and play in the water. It looked like a piece of cake.
"All right, I'm ready!" Rosewink announced, striding towards the water. Azlea padded after her.
"Are you sure about that?" he questioned doubtfully.
"Of course I am," Rosewink assured. She stopped right at the shore and let the water lap at her front toes. "Ahh, that feels wonderful!" she exclaimed.
Rosewink took off her rose collar and set it on the sand beside Azlea. "Wait here and make sure nobody steals my precious accessory, all right? I'm going in first."
"Okay," Azlea agreed with a nod.
Rosewink hummed cheerfully to herself as she began to take steps into the sea. She reveled in the cool liquid enveloping her at first, but once she could no longer feel any solid ground beneath her feet, she began to panic.
"I'm gonna die!" she screamed, making a fuss of kicking her legs and flailing her arms, making a huge splash. Other Wyngrew turned their heads to stare at her.
"You're doing fine," Azlea assured her, holding back snickers. Though she was very graceful on land, she was quite the opposite in water.
"No I'm not! I'm drowning!" Rosewink snapped, though she looked frustrated rather than scared. She was blushing bright red as if she realized she was overreacting.
"Here... lemme help," Azlea offered, and despite Rosewink's protests, he slipped into the water and effortlessly pushed her to shore; well, effortless aside from her yelling and flailing.
"Are you okay now?" Azlea asked, as Rosewink stood rigid on the sand, water dripping down her sides.
She was silent for a few moments, staring at the ground, filling Azlea with dread.
"I HATE SWIMMING!" she suddenly screeched. "I'd rather melt from the sun than step into the sea ever again!" And with that, she turned tail and ran, her face still blushing red with mortification.
With Rosewink out of sight, Azlea finally gave in and burst out laughing. For some reason it was amusing to see such a prissy Wyngling lose their temper. She was certainly an interesting friend, and he hoped to see her again sometime.
Meanwhile, Rosewink had gone to the bath house to cool down there instead. "Now this is water I don't mind being in," she said to herself as she leaned contentedly against the side of the bath, relaxing in the shallow water.
