I went for something diferent on this one... As a matter of fact when I started colouring it I didn´t know where I was going to end.
Eventually someone sugested that I shouldn´t use a black lines to define shapes and characters ( I do it when I finish painting)... Well, that I did and this came out...
And I finally depicted my favourite race from the Warhammer 40K realm, The Tau.

I still feel strange about this one.

What do you think?

I like this is the best 40k guard sketch you have done so far. I think the Kasrkin Sergeant's face turned out great and the Tau look fantastic. The background is also pretty sweet. My only complaint is I think the Kasrkin armor looks too clean & streamlined for the 41st millenia. Maybe if it looked a little more lived in or the high-tech look was keyed down a little in between the main armor plates it could be better.

Thank you very much Mr Robinson!!!

I´m getting this comments about the armour and I have to say that I´ll do my best to improve for the next image that also features the battle suit and the Kasrkin...

looks awesome, great composition, tho I'm not feeling the Kasrkin armour, the inner rings make it look TOO heavy and hi-tech. Also the Crisis suit is just kinda standing there...

Thanks Paul!
I know...I don´t do robots or armours that well...It´s something I´m slowly getting used to...I hope I improve soon.

I wouldn't even be ABLE not to add the extra definition to the contours of everything. Nice work on progressing like that.

Thank you very much Kazarr!
I´m going keep doing it as much as I can. You should try it too. Is kind of liberating.

Personally...? I think this is the best illustration I've seen from you. The lack of black lines pushed you to adjust the contrast on the watercolour work, which made everything more vibrant and shapely. Plus, this style fits way more with your gritty style and brush techniques than the blacklining choice; AND, you would stop putting in unnecessary detail with pens to focus on the meat of the issue
The only thing I see as critiqueable is that the layers need a bit more depth. Between foreground, middle-ground and background. But that can be added after the watercolour process with some markers. They won't ruin the hues and add a deep shade that will work wonders.

The plasma guns, the Tau and everything in this is gorgeous. I hope to see the original one day

Nico.-

Wow!
Thanks Nico!

It was very hard not being able to rely on the black lines but I think I´ll keep on doing it. I will surely miss my obsession with unnecessary details...

Contrast between layers was a pain in the ass and I know is far from good.

I´ll show you the original when I come by your house to know your masterpiece.

speaking as someone with the same tendency to over-detail, this is plenty detailed enuff!

Yeah...but i tend to do more details when I ink the lines. This is kind of a breakthrough to me...
