Because this bandwagon was just too much fun not to jump onto.
1. Ensign McNeill does not appreciate your attention, Kirk. He does, however, appreciate the direction in which you are facing.

Well, it did say anything in the Trek universe. And everyone else has been talking about TOS, so I figured I'd best cover Voltaire.
I dunno about that, actually. I don't really know if anyone could be Picard as good as Patrick Stewart, and I definitely don't want to see someone try to be Picard and fail.

John Cho did a really good job of capturing the "Essence of Sulu" in the film, but the only part where he's not just sitting at his conn is the bad ass drill fight. (In which, he eventually gets saved by Kirk. (And the Chekov, but that's besides the point.) FTW?)
I've been watching some of the old TOS episodes, and I'm all, "OMG, George Takei, I love you."

Hopefully in the next film he'll get some more screentime. The badass drill fight was pretty awesome, though. And he did save Kirk first, so I think it evens out.

Hopefully in the next film he'll end up running around half-naked with a fencing sword. (But hey, more screen time is good with me.)
He was amazing in TOS, even through the fact that Sulu and Chekov were characters that just filled in so Kirk could save some people. (I think that on of the episodes that Chekov is in alot was written for Sulu, but George Takei was busy filming something else... Not sure.)

He (and Chekov, too, and Scotty) was a really good side character, though. I really like when shows or books or whatever have interesting and likable side characters, because there's so much going on with them that you don't know. I get way more attached to them than the protagonists. Usually.

I agree. With the protagonists, you usually know what's happening with them practically every minute, so there's nothing to speculate about. For some reason, I normally tend to go for the side characters as well.

I think it's just that there's more freedom for them to be human. I mean, you don't know everything about them, so it's easier to associate with them based off of what you do know. I think.
