Description
As this shot has received so much attention i feel the need to give a bit more information on where it is and how it was made. The shot was taken at Llynheilyn Pool which is located in the east of Wales, luckily only a mile or so away from my house. You'd be lucky to find a day in the Welsh countryside with no wind but every now and then we are blessed with one, perfect weather for capturing reflections. The clouds just happened to be perfect, as if they were reaching out from the sky itself. When the shot was taken the clouds sort of formed a shape that resembled if they were being sucked in by the horizon, giving a great sense of depth. The wide sigma lens really emphasised the depth well.
A 6 shot HDR image generated in photomatix with later editing in photoshop. No filters of any kind were used when taking the photograph.

it seems redundant to say it's beautiful, since it's so obvious, but I just had to say it really is captivating, the reflection, the colors, and the depth with a subtle impression of motion that you get when you look at the clouds...all in all, truly brilliant work

hej,
very nice job. a bit not usual number of exposes but ok
What iam really curious about the steps you have chosen? You would tell? Please?
Its not so big steps right? 1/3 or 2/3? Or its really +-1EV?
greetings from poland!
Great job, perfect moment, perfect spot!

Thanks,
6 exposures to some sounds a little much but after experience of taking shots ready for HDR conversion its sometimes necessary. It gives a much smoother difference between light and dark areas when using HDR. I use steps of 1EV, firstly 3 ranging from 0 to +1EV and +2EV, then another 3 starting with -1EV ranging to -3EV, this gives a smooth blend of tones and the -3EV normally stops areas of extreme brightness, such as certain clouds from blowing out. I started doing this because I got grey areas of nothing when tone mapping, whereas this never does. Hope that made sense. Thanks again from Wales

I live a mile or so from this pool, its at the end my drive way so I've shot there hundreds of times. Its just a matter of waiting for the best day, sometimes it takes months but I normally get lucky in the end. Just have to be patient

oh how iam jealous about your nice spot there! really. I have nothing here around, ok Iam still checking out the area, but what i saw was n't how to say "impressive"
I know that I have to be patient, but iam starting to be not patient to find a spot.
Thank you very much!

This photo is amazing. I'm trying to find out a lot more about HDR... when you say 6 shot HDR image does that mean you have taken 6 separate pictures with different exposures or am i completely lost. I get my EOS30D in about a month and i'm ready to try out some things like this.
If you could let me know that'd be great.
Fantastic shot. defos a fav x

This shot is fantastic. The composition and the colours are perfect. I really like how you can see into the water in the foreground, it really adds to it. The green hills dividing the blue in the sky and water works really well.
