I know this old and a joke but I just wanted point out the following:
There is no answer as no problem had been posed. If asked to simplify the expression however, we would get 2+x/(1+x); a rational expression undefined when x=-1.

That's actually pretty easy. You distribute the 2 in the numerator and get 2x+2+x, which is 3x+2. Then distribute the 2 in the denominator and get 2x+2 times 1/2. 2x+2 divided by 2 is x+1, so its 3x+2 over x+1.

I don't get your anwser, can you please explain? I mean, isn't that just the same as saying x divided by one half? Or x*2 to put it differently?

Distribute the 2 on the numerator to x+1 and you get 2x+2+x = 3x+2.
On the denominator, x+1 is being multiplied by 2 and then divided by half, which is the same as doing nothing to it, so it remains as x+1.
