serendipity johnson was born in washington heights, manhattan, in 1990. she grew up loving music and film, learning multiple instruments before her eighteenth birthday. serendipity met gia pisano in middle school, and they stayed friends into adulthood. despite their long-lasting friendship, gia knows very little about seren, who keeps to herself and is afraid of opening up. seren doesn't see herself as worthy of love, and isolates herself from the rest of the world, despite longing for close personal relationships. seren began exploring her identity when she was fifteen, and now embraces it through crossplay and a more generally masculine appearance and manner. seren reviews music and movies on youtube, which makes her money on the side. she tries not to let her clinical depression get in the way of her job as a critic. she has addictions to both nicotine and alcohol.
serendipity has a very protective and aggressive personality. she is distrusting of gia's boyfriends, and acts as a protective older sibling to her roommate. she is short-tempered and easily upset. she is afraid of opening up and hides her internal struggle from gia.
