Description
Mankind, from the start, has been a great dreamer. They have never settled down with easy answers and always wishing to widen the horizon, see and understand what is behind the known. They have wanted to go to the farest deserts, to the highest mountains and to the deepest of seas.. They wanted to discover and see, sail around the world. See the wonders. Face the dangers and unknown.. All for the glory. All for the curiosity and the nature of mankind: reach out.. Try and fail and try again until they succeed. Dream big. Never giving up. It is all inside us.. It is part of who we are...One of those great minds, always reaching out to unknown.. Always wanting to find things still hidden, was James Cook. He may not be the man who discovered America nor did he sailed first around the world, but his passion, knowledge and curiosity still makes him one of the most important explorers from the time when Earth was still full of unknown, unmapped places and a simple man could make a step into unknown shores and be the first one ever leaving a footprint into that wet sand, soon to be washed away by tide waves.
Endeavour was the Cook's ship on his first voyage. It started 1768 with leaving from Plymouth. They sailed to Pacific Ocean to observe Venus movement across the Sun. They sailed around Cape Horn and to Tahiti where those scientific mesurments were to take place. After that, he opened second set of orders and learned that they are to trying to dind Terra Australis. He reach to New Zealand and mapped it.
What I wanted to show on the image, was calm, silent and windless morning. It is cold and fresh and sun is reaching out from the mountain, laying it's first beams over the uninhabited land. There is nothing to distrube the beauty of the nature.. but then.. just as everything looks as it is, there is something different.. there is that big and majestetic ship, all sails put away, anchor on the fround.. just resting, sleeping.. as nature around it.. Tense mist rising from the cold water in the wake of new day, hiding and covering ship.. Hiding the undiscovered land, full on unknown secrets, places to go.. wonders to see...
It has been heavy work and hard times to sail over Pacific Ocean.. the dangers of being so far from land in the mercy of forces of nature is over.. It is rest for the crew.. It is rest for the ship. It is a moment of peace, breathing pause between storms.. It's calm.. it's misty.. it's so beautiful that you could almost start crying... You are at the end of the world.. heading towards the unknown...
This is third of three images as I started on summer, but somehow I felt this one will be the first one to submit. I really enjoyed making it. Wanted it to look like old painting. I just adore those old oil paintings.. those colors, the texture.. the feeling. And, yes, I have been spending much time lately about reading of discoveries.. I have had one idea on my head for ages.. I hope I will get to it.. I really hope.. but I am afraid it is too big.. that one did not had that trouble.. I had most amazing morning on my lovely summer house.. went to seaside.. and it was all bog and mist. I did not see 10 meters in front of me. I could sit on a beach, not see the water.. not see other people.. totally on my own.. surrounded by unknown.. it was so surreal and so fantastic experience and then, I just felt, I had to put that on paper.. to try to save the feeling..

the only thing is that the lily leaves are a bit too big and so are the birds, not something you think of when you see the stunning picture, but looking closely, the lily leaves are to short a distance from the boat for it to be so much smaller and the birds are like albatross big compared to the boat

Oh wow. Such beauty, tranquility and yet there is an underlying expectation and even foreboding. You've really managed to create the feel of an old painting here, too. Gorgeous work.

I`m so happy to see a new, as perfect as always, piece by yourself, I`ve been missing your Art for months. I also love to see something different, the second landscape manip in your gallery, the opposite of the previous one - soft, light and delicate. Plus, not only the ship and the adventurers this image is about are taking to new shores but your Art sems to do so when it somes subject matter.
Oh, I`m just so glad you`re back and I keep my fingers crossed for you to have more time to manipulate

Lovely image and nice composition.. i feel like you reflection however could do with some more work, the reflection of the ship shouldn't be as opaque.. and with that kind of motion a reflection wouldn't be as obvious.
But the colours are beautiful, and you find a great way to use a lens flare

mm.. ok.. I get your point but as I wanted to have quite clear windless sea I thought it is ok but everyone has their own opinion

You never fail to amaze me. This is definitely some of your best work. I put this up on my screen as a desk top wallpaper just because I could stare at it for hours.
