Description "Draw, write, or roleplay your character going into the mountains to get a shadow plant specimen."
Drew this based off a rp I did with ! Sorry that it's a bit late. and omg I rushed the coloring I'm so sorry
also Lark's is super sensitive to the cold so that's what the red cheeks and breath is from dont read too much into it ok
~~~~~~~~~~
>Gray was walking back from turning in his Shadowmancy experiment. The whole ordeal had been an adventure, to say the least, and he didn’t think he wanted to go into the mountains again anytime soon. But at least both of his classes were complete now. Lighting up a fireball in his right hand, he tossed it up and down, absentmindedly, wondering what kind of trouble he could get into.
    >Lark sighed, an action that seemed to suit him lately. Procrastinating on going up to the mountains had not been a wise action since he was now hurried to do it. But he hated the cold weather and the sharp, bitter cold that would be sure to greet him was daunting enough to make Lark avoid the assignment as much as possible. His hatred for cold was strong and just thinking about it caused a shiver to run down the length of his back as he pulled his scarf more snugly around his neck.
    There was a problem besides the harsh conditions with going up to the mountains, however. Lark had no light source whatsoever. This would definitely pose to be a problem in the pitch black darkness that the mountain was sure to offer. Lark had no lantern to take with him and had not prepared for this earlier for obvious reasons. Perhaps he could ask to borrow one from someone… Except that he had had no experience in socializing with anyone on campus since enrollment. Lark groaned softly in frustration. His anti-social attitude would surely be the death of him– grade wise.
    The young spirit glanced around, hoping to spot a student who was not currently in a clique and chattering away. A loner similar to himself. A bobbing light caught his eye. It was fire, belonging to a tallish, pale, boy with sharp facial features. He was tossing a fireball in his hand and, even better, he was alone. Fire… The idea hit Lark at full speed and, taking a deep breath, he began towards the student. Perhaps he wouldn’t need a lantern after all.
                “H-hey…” He called, in his soft spoken voice. Wow, talk about lame. Lark cursed his barely audible words but he supposed there was no turning back now.
>“H-hey” The soft words were dropped to Gray’s ears by a light wind, a tremor so infinitesimal that Gray was unsure that he had even heard them at all. Nevertheless, he cocked his head to the side and turned around towards the sound. He wasn’t the type to ignore his senses, at any time. It could get a guy killed. Sure enough, a short boy was making his way towards Gray, a strange mix of determination and apprehension on his face. Still tossing the fireball in his hand, the witch hunter decided to span the gap between them, too impatient to wait for this… dwarf to finish striding towards him. He grinned down at the tiny boy condescendingly. “Do you need something, or did you get lost coming from the nursery?”
                >The audacity! For a moment Lark gaped under his scarf, a touch of scarlet rising in the tips of his ears. Lark couldn’t tell if it was from embarrassment or anger from the violation of his pride but he suppressed the feeling, grinding his teeth slightly. He wasn’t one to show his feelings and instead masked his face with a blanket of calmness. Still, he seethed a little inside, and he shoved one hand into his pocket. It wasn’t like he had asked to die in a kid’s body.
                Lark raised his head and peered up at the “fire boy” intentionally looking into his multi colored eyes in an attempt to save his dignity. This was difficult, if not futile, for the grey skinned male towered above Lark’s child body. Trying to raise his voice a bit, he spoke firmly, “Actually, I do need something. I’m kind of heading up to the mountains and I need your… fire power.” Lark said it bluntly, cutting to the chase. “Oh, and I’m Lark… Like the bird.” Tweet, tweet, he thought sourly, as he stuck out his hand stiffly in an attempt at courtesy. His arm wavered for a second, as he rethought the idea of shaking hands. After all, fire boy could burn him once again—this time quite literally.
>Gray notice the flash of emotion rise up in Lark’s face, only to be quickly suppressed. Oh so he was one of those types. The kind who was easily embarrassed but didn’t like to show it. This would be all sorts of fun then. He met the pastel clothed boy’s eyes coolly with his own, which were dancing with scornful laughter, the star imprints in them clearly visible. “What a rude way to ask for a favor.” The witch hunter had clearly forgotten that he himself had done the same thing just days earlier. Or perhaps it was less forgotten and more… ignored. After all, it was easier to pick on the faults of others if he assumed that he himself had none. “I’m a busy person you know.” This was a lie. He had absolutely nothing to do at the moment. But he pulled his notebook out of his back pocket anyway. “Let me check my schedule.” Mockingly, he pretended to flip through the journal and then looked back at Lark with fake surprise. “Wow, looks like I’m all free! I guess it wouldn’t hurt to extend my services to you then.” Grasping the boy’s child-like hand in his own, he spoke without much sincerity. “I’m Gray. Nice to meet you.”
               > He was mocking Lark, that much was certain. Why, out of all of the hundreds of students he could have possible chosen, did he have to choose the one who had seemingly invented sarcasm. Now that Lark thought about it more intently, he could have very possible asked Lacie and her extensive party of friends to help him. But at least he hadn’t been turned down; it was a start in the very least.
                Gray’s hand was much larger than Lark’s own, and very… grey. His complexion lived up to his name it seemed. “Nice to meet you, fire bo—Gray.” Lark greeted him dryly, merely out of his polite nature, and then continued, not caring if he received a response or not. “Since you’re so obviously free, I’d like you to accompany me into the mountains in search of a shadow plant… or something.” This really wasn’t a good idea at all, heading off to a dark and desolate place with a total stranger who also happened to be the one he was being forced to rely on. But what else could he do? Honestly, Gray intimidated him quite a bit, and his smile was almost… demonic. Forcing the thought of demons out of his mind malignantly, Lark spoke again.
                “I… I don’t exactly know where we’re going, so if you could lead the way…” His voice got quieter as he spoke, a bit sheepishly, glancing downwards awkwardly.
>“Oh you’re in that class?” Thinking back, Gray realized that his kid had been in his class. He was just so quiet and small that Gray hadn’t deemed to focus any attention on him. He himself had taken Babette as a light source for that assignment. And now? It looked like Karma was a bitch after all. Now he was going to be the one in charge of lighting up that dim cavern. He just hoped that Lark could defend himself. If he was holding fire, he wouldn’t be able to transform his hand. The witch hunter shrugged inwardly. Well, it didn’t affect him if the runt died.
He laughed aloud at Lark’s sheepish confession. “Nice, you don’t even know where we’re going? Lucky for you that I’ve already done this.” He gestured in the direction of the mountain and began walking off quickly, calling out over his shoulder in a laughing voice. “Try and keep up!”
               > “Yeah, I am.” Lark muttered to himself, not really intending to answer Gray’s question. Gray’s barking laugh interrupted him, however, and he began to walk away, purposely taking long strides so that Lark would have to jog to catch up. Running after him, however, allowed Lark time to collect his thoughts. Fingering the knives that he kept lined neatly under his sweater, he nervously began to move one in and out of its holster. He had heard stories of the dangers that lurked in the mountains, but hadn’t a clue of the specifics or if he were able to handle it. He was skilled with knives, yes, but the darkness was a foe in this case and his child-like body would restrain his movements quite a bit. He was quite agile though.
                Lark wondered if Gray could fight. Obviously he would be incapable of doing so, but still it was interesting to think about. What was he anyway? He could control fire and had pointy ears so would that make him some sort of elemental elf? Maybe just outright asking would be the best option to quench Lark’s curiosity. Wait, no, that was a stupid question that was sure to get another sharp edged response in return. It didn’t matter, really. Lark didn’t think he was going to keep in touch with Gray.
                The spirit’s breathing was becoming more ragged as the pair traveled up the mountain path, Lark falling further and further behind. The air was becoming cooler and cooler as they ascended and Lark was already starting to shiver slightly. Screw this, he thought, lifting his body a few inches off the ground. He didn’t really like levitating but if this sarcastic and stuck up elf, or whatever he was, intended to keep up the lack of consideration for Lark’s short stature, it was something he would be forced to do. And it did make the spirit a little taller. Gliding quickly over the snow, Lark caught up with Gray easily, his scarf dragging on the ground and leaving a long trail behind him.
>Gray glanced back to see that the boy had taken to levitating and was now gaining on him. As the two leveled with each other, he gave an overdramatic sigh. “Oh well it’s no fun now that you’re *cheating*” Even lifted a few inches off the ground however, the spirit was still tiny, and Gray found this hilarious. He took note that the boy’s scarf was dragging along the snow and wondered if he noticed… or minded. What was with people and scarfs here anyway? So many students at Otherworlde seemed to love wearing them… Suddenly the witch hunter stopped, spinning around dramatically and without any warning to face Lark. He gestured to the massive cavern in front of them, one that had appeared with little warning while both had been racing along, preoccupied in their thoughts. “Well we’re here. Let’s get this over with.” Gray felt a sort of smug superiority in that he had already completed the assignment himself, and he had settled into a sort of teacher role. He leaned forward and grinned, one hand on his hip, the other holding a flame. “Be careful, they bite.”
Word Count: Lark's part totals 1108 words! There's going to be more to the rp but this all I'm including~~
Gray belongs to I hope I didn't screw him up too badly.
Also, anyone I'm currently rping with, I'm so sorry for the long delay in response, I'm trying to get my personal life back on track. It'd be much appreciated if you could leave me a comment or drop me a note to remind me (idk I had a lot going on.) Once again, I'm super sorry.
