I mean, seriously, the quality is pretty awful otherwise.
When I first started actually watching Adventure Time, Marceline quickly became my favourite character despite my loyalty to Hynden Walch's characters because she was just so... engaging. And relatable. A typical creative, unhygeinic, parent-hating teenager.
But then I ran out of Marceline-featured episodes and started watching the PB-featured ones instead, and it wasn't long before she knocked Marceline off the fence and took the place of "Best female cartoon character of all time" in my opinion.
Recently there has been a LOT of hate towards Princess Bubblegum, mainly because of her philosophy towards ruling which is often taken as her just being cold. In her mind the safety of the kingdom as a whole is absolute top priotity ad ANYONE who crosses it is a threat. We see these prioritiies show themselves a lot, particularly recently, when she commits morally questionable acts for the safety of her people.
This art shows a small montage of things that are both "important" and "personal" to PB. The "personal" things are mainly moments that have risen because PB's priorities have been set on "important" things.
1. Personal - Marceline singing "Just Your Problem", representing shattered relationship.
2. Important/Personal - Mistreatment of Lemongrab, her son who she created to take the throne upon her passing, to make him leave kingdom.
3. Personal - Finn shouting her down in "Burning Low".
4. Important - Promo art of the same episode, PB locking up Flame Princess.
The coloured picture of Bonnibel in the foreground is to represent her when she's taking into account personal things, when she's casual. She is holding the rock t-shirt Marceline gave her and also the poem that Finn wrote for Flame Princess in "Burning Low" which caused her to panic.
The background picture Princess Bubblegum is supposed to represent her when she's being particularly formal.
So the symbolism is the difference between Bonnibel Bubblegum and Princess Bubblegum.
The sentence "Personal isn't the same as Important" is a quote from Carrot Ironfoundersson of the Discworld series. Now listen up - Carrot had the same philosophy as PB in that you shouldn't chase after personal objectives and should always do what is important as a priority, a philosophy he only ever broke in one book whilst seeking his fiance Angua across Uberwald.
Also, get this - Carrot was and has always been the MOST RIGHTEOUS OUT OF ALL THE WATCHMEN.
So, really, PB could be the more righteous than Finn but we wouldn't know because she has her priorities set straight and people tend to interpret her as cold because of that when she is actually saving more lives in the process.
Which is an incredibly sad thing to realise.

I love PB, she is my fave female character. I get so mad when people put her down and make fun of her. It's all about Flame Princess and I don't like it. I liked PB since the beginning of the series and I still like her. People are saying that she's evil because she tried to burn out Flame princess, she's not evil, she's trying to save her kingdom!!! I wish people would leave her alone......

Same here story here. She's perhaps the most amazingly interesting and complicated female cartoon character I've ever seen, but not many people actually look deep enough into the show to appreciate the complexity of its characters. They brush over it expecting it to be like any other awful cartoon with depth but it really isn't. So unless a character is obviously likable they most likely hate them. These same people who have Flame Princess as a favourite character probably do not like Finn or Ice King (or Lemongrab) too much, thinking the latter two are evil and not acknowledging the depth of any of them.
Flame Princess appeared... twice... and as of now has no personality... and yet she is HUGELY popular for the SIMPLE fact that Finn's love for her isn't unrequited.

I agree that PB is an amazing character. People only look at her flaws and use them against her. It just aggravates me so much, I can't watch any videos on Youtube of PB without people going off at how horrible she is and FP is sooooo much better. I agree with you about FP, she has only been shown a few times but in those times, we really don't know anything about her. Only that she had to be locked up because she is unstable and any romantic feelings she shows will destroy the world. PB has her reasons for being the way she is. I like her character no matter what, hopefully in the new episode people will appreciate her character more because it will be mostly about her and Rainicorn.

I agree with you. As much as I disapproved of PB's actions toward Finn, I knew that she wasn't trying to be a jerk. The heartache she unknowingly caused Finn was simply collateral damage from her doing her job. And thanks to her, Ooo isn't a massive smoldering crater right now. Nice artwork, by the way.

You know, the episode "Lady and Peebles" is going to be boarded by Rebecca and Cole, which would be the first episode PB makes a live (non-dream) appearence in since Burning Low. I don't think both episodes being boarded by the same artists and writers is a coincidence, I think that Finn might still be pissed off with PB and they're going to try and repair that damage in that episode.

Repairing friendship damage? At last! I've been waiting for such an episode since "Too Young"(I'm getting rather sick of the akward atmosphere between those two, and despite me shipping them in the early episodes, I'd now rather they both just be happy as friends).

In the beggining of AT i think PB was kind of annoying, but when the time is passing i just fall in love for her <3 She's too strong for her "age" (even i think she's 18 for a loooong time... i really don't think she ages like the rest of the candy people or Finn

Usually for the sake of shipping or general character hatred fanfiction writers impulsively portray a character as more bitter and twisted than they really are.
And on all the "Burning Low" videos there were loads and loads of people going "BACK OFF PB U HAD UR CHANCE" and "PB is a bitch" and all that baseless shit.
pointed out that the fans treat her like Gotham City treats Batman. They point out all her "flaws" and call her "cold and heartless" for putting down their "hero", however there are a few who understand her motives.

The girl gets so much hate whereas she happens to be the most complex and realistic and interesting female character I've ever seen outside of "Ghost in the Shell".

I love Marcie and her singing ^^ but recently she's not been getting any personality development. I mean, in her most recent episodes she had basically two minutes on-screen between two Marceline-centred episodes, so it appears they cant think of as much interesting stuff to do with her personality as they can with PB's.
