Description
This was one of my later illustration assignments. We were supposed to take one of 3 classic fairy tales and create an alternate interpretation of it.
I did Little Red Riding Hood, in which Red is raised by wolves and lives within their pack. I kept thinking of Princess Mononoke when I was making this.
This is another one of my favorite 2D illustrations that I've done so far. Other than a couple compositional issues (namely, the placement of the 2 wolves on the left) I'm pretty happy with it.
mixed media: matte medium, acrylic, ballpoint pen and glazes of oil paint/ liquin. About 12 x 17? Not completely sure about the size.
You can use oil and acrylic together! Who knew?!

Oh, wow, this is beautifully done! I love how dark it is (yeah, it does feel a bit like Princess Mononoke!). I've been researching tons of fairytales the past few weeks for a project, so running across this was perfect timing!
I actually like the part of the composition you have issues with--those two wolves help complete a directional arrow, I think, keeping the eye focused on your main subject. The only problem I have, as I think another person said, is that it does feel very framed--maybe the wolf in the back could have gone off the page a bit? I don't know how you'd have done that with his face without making it look cut off...just my two cents
Anyway, wonderful imagery! Definitely not a group I'd want to run into in a dark forest. Love it!

My main issue with the composition is nothing seem to cross the edge of the page. It feels very framed in instead of expansive.
But other than that, looks awesome! Keep up the good work. :3

I like how Red's clothing is somewhat torn and her expression. Her smile appears as a smirk, to me.
I also enjoy how you made the wolves appear ghost-like in appearance. That and the dark colors give the whole piece a very classic, eerie feel.

Really awesome stylization and subject, I love your design of this. Reminds me of the kind of classic fairy tale etchings/illustrations, a lot of great texture and movement while keeping it 'simple' more or less. Well done indeed.
