This was one of my later illustration assignments. We were supposed to take one of 3 classic fairy tales and create an alternate interpretation of it.
I did Little Red Riding Hood, in which Red is raised by wolves and lives within their pack. I kept thinking of Princess Mononoke when I was making this.
This is another one of my favorite 2D illustrations that I've done so far. Other than a couple compositional issues (namely, the placement of the 2 wolves on the left) I'm pretty happy with it.
mixed media: matte medium, acrylic, ballpoint pen and glazes of oil paint/ liquin. About 12 x 17? Not completely sure about the size.
You can use oil and acrylic together! Who knew?!

Holy Grail, these colors are amazing! Well, they always are 'cause you got a magic eye for color use or something, but in this it even prettier than usual. I think it's the oil that gives it this very classy(?) or even realistic look. I don't know, but it works.
Only thing I don't really like is Red's face. She looks so angry! But maybe that's what happens when you're raised by wolves :')

dude. mixing media is the BEST. experiment with different things - you ever paint with tea?

Seriously! I always have a hard time staying with just one media at a time because with mixed media there's so many possibilities!
I have... and coffee too. Tea is often really faint so coffee shows up better. I also want to try painting with red wine but I'm not quite 21 yet so I don't want to get into any trouble obtaining wine, even though I don't plan to drink it (psh, I'm such a goodie two-shoes.) xD
And I think it very well can be if you have the right attitude about it and try to learn as many different things from it as possible! :]

Ah, I've always so enjoyed Red Riding Hood reinterpretations. This one is no exception.
I love all the little things about it too. The wolves' eyes, how their fur looks more spectral than fur-like, the way the tail of the wolf that Red is riding just keeps going like a wisp caught in the breeze... It's all so lovely. There aren't enough adjectives for 'awesome' and 'beautiful' to describe it. Simply wonderful job. ^^

i remember seeing/reading a storie in which red riding hood was the bad guy and her name was red hunting hood or blood red hood er something but ya this pic remined me of that altough it is a really good pic

It seems a lot of your work is influenced by Studio Ghibli, yes? <3 But that's not a problem since SG is da bomb anyway.
