(The Lion King 2: Zira’s Pride?)

A ReverseDisney drawing based on FablePaint ’s idea of the reverse first Lion King (check it out, it’s awesome!). This is my version of reversed Lion King 2 – my favorite Disney movie. Though reversing the roles is harder with this movie because the characters are already so morally ambiguous. I’m also not sure how the reversed version of the first movie is supposed to end, so I’ll just focus on the second movie alone while drawing somewhat from that version

Zira is the leader of a group of lionesses who supported Scar and his idea of fairness, and for that, they were exiled from Simba’s pride to the barren Outlands. Zira, a capable leader and a caring, but strict mother, plans to end Simba’s tyrannical reign with the help of her son, Kovu. She wants Kovu, chosen by Scar as his successor in his mission, to be a ‘lion ambassador’ of sorts to other animals to convince them that there are lions who don’t support Simba’s exploitation of the rest of the animals in the Pridelands. He is supposed to convince them that they should all, collectively, confront Simba to make him change his policies or resign. However, that is not easy, because Simba’s regime spreads a lot of anti-Scar propaganda, fearmongering, and slander about the Outsiders. As a result, everyone in the kingdom believes that the Outsiders are the enemy and they are the ones who only seek to exploit them behind their benevolent façade.

Simba, meanwhile, has a cub named Kiara, who he raises to rule with an iron fist as the future Queen. One day during her hunt, she notices Kovu trying to talk a herd of zebra into supporting his cause. The sly Kiara realizes what kind of danger he is, and one day ‘saves’ Kovu during a ‘sudden’ wildfire set up by her father’s henchmen while Kovu approaches another animal group in the Pridelands. Kovu soon becomes infatuated with the beautiful Kiara, and she convinces him that his mother is only using him, but she cares about him for who he is.

In this version, hyenas lost all hope and left, the Outsiders taking their place as political outcasts.

Zira has a bad reputation for being brash and aggressive sometimes, though rumors about her cruelty were exaggerated by Simba. She cares deeply about her children, but her focus on finishing Scar’s life mission makes them feel less important to her.

Nuka is a caring and protective older brother, though he is somewhat simple and naïve. Due to being the oldest and expected to act as such, he gets less attention than his siblings, which only makes him believe he should be more supportive of them. Nuka’s fatal flaw is that he always puts others’ needs before his own. (Also, Nuka collects flowers).

Vitani is Zira’s second-in-command. She is tough and rational. She feels suspicious of Kiara, however good-looking she may find her, and doubts Kovu’s loyalties. Nevertheless, she always tries to find a non-violent solution.

Kiara eventually sees the fault in her father’s leadership, and together with Kovu, they manage to gather the other animals to confront Simba. However, one of the groups of animals betrays them and attacks Kiara.

Simba, despite being a cruel tyrant to his subjects, is a loving father to his daughter, and saves Kiara when she’s in danger, risking his life even though she defied him.
