I guess, you know all about layers and making your lineart multiply above your colors!

The way to do it somewhat easy is to choose a base-color for the section.
Let's say the skin.
Color the entire skin section in the mid-color.
When you are done make the layer keep its transparency, that way you wont color outside the
painted bit.
Now choose a color lighter than your base-color and one darker. This way you can swap between
them with the hotkey 'x'.
I always use the Airbrush set to 12%. Start with the darker. Airbrush the edges and the lower parts.
Swap to the lighter and put a little highlight in the center sections.

If you want to go Hogwild now choose an even darker and lighter color and repeat keeping even closer
to the edge with the dark and the center with the light!

All you need now is a little patience, cos it's gonna take time.
