Description
Just some fun with the Catalyst. Don't take it too seriousPersonally, I'm glad that the ending of ME3 went the way it did (even if I still don't like some aspects of it). At least, I can enjoy all the discussions and theories that are much more interesting than if we'd get just some kind of classic ending that everyone would be happy about.

THANK YOU. I mean, I might feel like talking about what I didn't like about Mass Effect 3 if people would just shut up about the stupid ending. They sound less like "I think the ending should have been better because [enter legitimate grievance here]" and more like "Don't do anything I don't want you to, EVER!".

My only complaint (and it was actually spawned by the fandom) is the fact that the Catalyst/Intelligence used the form of the boy. People tend to hate godlike children. Or just children in general. Me? I'm fine with it. But everyone else hates the Catalyst in large part because of its use of this form.
Imagine if it had taken on the form of someone else like the dead Virmire character or your love interest? People would still be complaining because Bioware "fans" are ungrateful fucks, but we might not have as much hatred. Eliminating the Catalyst/Intelligence and filling its role with Harbinger would have worked well too. Who can say...
Anyway, I am loyal to the game and its conclusion, and I like your image because this is exactly what I say to the naysayers. Bravo.

Thanks for your comment. You have a point with your "people tend to hate godlike children" argument. The situation around the ending wouldn't be so tense if BioWare used some other form of the "Intelligence".

No amount of DLCs or re-written endings, will make this game good.
We were delivered crap (and it wasn't just the ending).

Don't worry. If you like it, good for you. And I'm glad you did. I don't like mayo, either. But, I don't think it should be banned.
In my business we have a saying. "It is, what it is." All one can do is shrug and move on, eh?

Hahaha! Oh yes that s hilarious! I liked the ending as well. Its an honorable way to die as the main hero. Its a dishonor to bicker over such an honorable sacrifice.

I should make myself clear. I can't say I liked the ending. There are some interesting ideas, but the execution seems to me kind of sloppy. For me, it was quite ok, but it didn't feel like being REWARDED for all I'd done (and I don't mean happy ending, that would be boring).

Catalyst: "You know I'm just doing this to f**k with you, right?"
Shepard: "But... The Reapers... they're like, killing everyone..."
Catalyst: *puts glasses on* "DEAL WITH IT." Love it. This seems exactly like the sort of thing the Catalyst would do.

Control: Shepard becomes the Catalyst, after his body is dissolved and absorbed by the Catalysts systems.
Synthesis: Shepard becomes the blueprint upon which to merge synthetic and organic life, ensuring that the Reapers become obsolete.
Destroy: Shepard blows up the Reaper's main central processor unit, which houses all of the reaper consciousnesses, which transmits the "shutdown" signal to every Reaper in the milky way. Friendly synthetics are spared if war assets are high enough, as evidenced by Shepard's survival.
What was so hard about that?

Oh God, stop it! It's just so fucking awful! The saddest thing about is we'll never know why. We'll never know why this was allowed to happen or what they were thinking. How could they fuck it up this bad? Who is ultimately responsible for this calamity? Who made the disappointment known as space magic? We'll never know. No one will answer the question that plagues us all. Why? WHY? WHY?!

I disagree. I personally would have been bored stupid by the allied forces just blowing the shit out of the Reapers for the end of the game. Why? Because it's been DONE BEFORE. How many other games do you think have the "At the end we just overpower them and destroy everything" ending? Off the top of my head: Halo, all of the Call of Duty games, Crysis, Crysis 2, Starcraft, Starcraft: Brood War, Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty, most of the Battlefield games, the entire Gears of War trilogy, etc etc.
I give BioWare major props for actually daring to try something different. For writing an ending that made me think instead of gloss over. I don't care why they decided to do it, I don't even remotely care that people are throwing massive hissy fits over it. So you didn't get the ending that you imagined, big fucking deal. It wasn't our game, we weren't in charge of any of the aspects of the game. BioWare gave fans a lot of input, which hardly any other developers do.
So cry me a river of crocodile tears, and STFU.

LMAO! You're funny, man. I wish I could live in ignorance too. An ending full of holes and lacks any narrative cohesion blows. Make synthetics to kill everyone so they don't get killed by synthtics. First of all, that's nonsense. Second, the game is about stoping the reapers not magically changing everything into cyborgs. I don't care if it wasn't our game. You can't polish a turd. *sigh*

At least I have the sense to understand that no matter how much anyone complains the ending isn't going to get changed. Bitch all you want, but you aren't gonna get that perfect ending that you lovingly hand crafted in your head.

I wanted an ending that isn't garbage. That's what the DLC is for. To make a vain attempt to explain this mess. If you need to make an expansion pack to make an ending coherent, you botched the job. It's an epic fuck up the likes of which no one has ever seen. There's nothing else to be said.

artimisson In reply to derlich [2012-05-01 10:20:12 +0000 UTC]
no, they made the extended cut DLC because people were complaining. There was no reason for them to make an extended cut but for people whining that the ending wasn't the one they wanted. The ending was coherent enough on it's own. But just because their fans were throwing epic hissy fits all over the internet, BioWare decided to give them something extra (for free mind you). So get over yourself, you aren't going to change a damn thing by whining about how bad you think the ending is.
