Maribeth was exhausted, she had spent the better part of two days keeping the lights to the deep lit as to guide Maggie and Zoe to their destination, as well as keeping the path back aglow for Zoe to come back. Now, with Equinox having retreated to her own dark corner of the pit, Maribeth finally gave out.

’She’ll be fine with the lights out for a bit.’ Maribeth thought to herself as she drifted amongst the strands that held her boss hostage. Each one of the tentacled extensions was comprised of countless mermaids. All strung together, hand to tail, letting their long hair flow in the water.

”You guys mind waking me up if she wakes up?” She asks a passing string. None of the mermaids in it gave her a response. Sure, some turned their heads, or craned their necks to look at the nautilus addressing them, but they gave no sign of assurance.

”Figures.” Maribeth says to herself before puffing her way further up the pit. At least to a point where she was sure she was out of Equinox’ reach if she returned. The zooid mermaids gave her odd looks, knowing what kind of wrath she was in for if she was discovered off her post.

”The big finned girl will be fine for a few hours. She’s not an idiot and there were no Dwellers around when I shut the lights off.” Maribeth said to the multitude, although mostly trying to reassure herself on Maggie’s safety.

”She’ll me fine…” Maribeth repeated softly as she dozed off.
