Description
National Zoo - Washington, D.C.Emu and kangaroos are more prevalent in the southeast region of Australia where a 6ft Dingo Fence was built in the 1880's to block off the fertile area and livestock (sheep) from dingos (seeing as most dingo's in the area had been eliminated at that point). As a natural consequence, the lack of wild predators has increased pasture competition between domestic livestock and wild kangaroos and rabbits (feral). The latter happen to be a problem in and of themselves in Australia, not unlike the feral South-American Toads introduced some years back. A less known fact about feral animals in Australia is that even camels are not native to the continent but introduced by settlers.
