Description asked that I keep going with his sketch, and look what I did!

With the exception of a few details, I'm actually pretty damn proud of this. Hope you all enjoy!

She cuts a fabulous figure, especially going upwards from her boots - the way her hips flare outward is just beautiful. I wonder what kind of spell she is about to attempt...?

That's okay. If you'd like I could explain it as best as I understand it, but I won't push that on you.

Okay, er... Well, for the majority of people on here I'd say it's a sexual thing-- and I'll admit for me it is as well. This is the part that's hardest to rationalize, because how the hell do you justify something you're attracted to? But for me it's also become sort of a body-positive thing. There is a lot of talk about "beauty having no size" and yet the images associated with that are surprisingly limited... so a lot of what I draw is also with the idea that everyone and every size is beautiful. I try to make all of my art reflect that alongside whatever sexual undertones there may be.

I guess people find it so hard to understand because we are all so heavily socially conditioned to think that fat is gross, unhealthy, negligent, ugly, and to be avoided at all costs. And that social conditioning is hard to overcome-- even for those who are inexplicably attracted to weight gain, fat, etc. The community on deviantART is very friendly and supportive, so that may be why so much of this art turns up amongst the regular stuff.

Hopefully that explains it a little?

You are absolutely right, size doesn't matter one tiny bit, you are beautiful for who you are. Don't let those judgmental people get to your beauty, you are beautiful for who you are and everyone needs to believe that, I have a lot of friends that hate their weight because when they're super skinny, they'll call themselves fat... It hurts me and especially all the bullies calling kids "too fat" or "too skinny", wrong. It never matters for what you are or who you are, your art really means a lot, great job. (:

Just to add to what you said, I also think that having a character have a lot of weight adds, well character to them. Sure, it's fun to draw a toned super spy or muscular super heroine, but that gets old really fast. Having a heavy character unlocks a whole plethora of mannerisms and traits that you can't have with skinny people.

(sorry this is coming so late) I very much agree. Drawing larger body types has really opened me up to new personalities, stories, and mannerisms that wouldn't make sense in context for a thin character.

One of the things that I just cannot understand is that a lot of time in Anime they'll have a 'glutton' character. Usually their role is the comedic relief. But! They're constantly, constantly eating. And yet they're still skinny as a rail? I can see that in a couple, where at the same time, they're exerting a lot of energy/burning all of those calories. (Like Sokka from The Last Airbender, or what's-her-name from Madoka Magica (the red-headed one)) But a lot of the time it's in a 'normal' school setting, where the character is only as active as the average human teenager. It does not compute at all.

Sailor Moon pulled that one and I NEVER understood how it worked. Usagi would worry that she was getting fat and she looked exactly the same! With Sokka it almost makes sense since he IS really active, but I totally agree that "average" teenager characters should show at least some difference because of their eating.
