Another woman of the Bible, a discussion facilitated this time with our Sunday School class. Here was a woman who went through huge changes. First, her husband died. Then she left her home country of Moab to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi. In Israel, surely she was treated as a foreigner. Being a widow to boot, she had to resort to gleaning to support her and Naomi. After much grit and persistence, and in submission to God and her mother-in-law, she married Boaz, becoming the mother of Obed, who is grandfather of the boy who eventually became King David.

Our takeaway from Ruth's story? That life is full of changes, and we need to learn to move with those changes. But we can also take heart and rest in the hands of an unchanging God.
