I recommend using Bondo Putty for the edges. After you apply the putty, wait about 15-30 minutes (it dries really fast, trust me) and take some sandpaper to sand it out. 60 grit sand paper for the rough parts and 100-120 grit to make it smooth and fine. After you feel it's perfect, harden it up with Bondo Fiberglass resin. That takes about 1-2 hour wait time if you want the resin to fully harden up. After, you check to see if you see any mistakes, such as holes or dents and repeat if needed. Finally, you MUST have primer to apply on the product BEFORE you paint it. The primer will not only harden the product, it will give your paint a shinier look.
The materials aren't expensive. Bondo Putty and Fiberglass resin ranges from $5-$15 each and sandpaper is about $5 for 3 large sheets. You don't even need a workshop, but I recommended doing all this outside. Sanding is very messy and the smell of the putty and fiberglass is not healthy to breathe in, especially indoors.

AWESOME, will you make more tutorials? i think i will make an only cardboard UberSaw when i have it (:U), paper looks like it sucks but if you glue a lot paper on paper (or cardboard on cardboard) you get a woodlike handle
π: 0 β©: 1
IdentityPolution In reply to Vincentmrl [2011-09-23 01:56:43 +0000 UTC]
its not just paper, its foamcore and its very solid when its done. you can use this same tutorial substituting the foamcore boards for cardboard if you want, im sure it will work just fine. you will however have to use the hotglue smoothed over ALL the edges so you dont see the ugly zigzag cardboard sides. i perfer foamcore because it doeant have those aperent lines that cardboard does throguh the surface, but thats not to say it wouldnt look decent.

i can also use thick paper, a guy made a working rifle out of paper and it was like wood, also i can sand the paper to get a nice look
