I think you're right. For some reason, I always saw Ironhide as sad behind that tough exterior.
I know - I get messages from DeviantArt about my DevWatch filling up I'm so delinquent lately. I'm doing Nanowritmo and between that and the kids, there's not a lot of time in my day.

Ironically I was sobbing after an argument I had with my dad yesterday, but I did this when I was all cried out. I can imagine he's sad to , like prime would be when alone, good thing he's at least got Ratchet there with him.
