my submission for THIS >8D

EDIT: I finished coloring it and finished adding textures. 8D my coloring skills aren't especially good though. digital coloring looks nicer, but it scares me. ; A ;

Name: 吴秋鱼 (Wu QiuYu)
Age: 7
Background: Her dad (a business man) died 3 years ago on a business trip to North America, where he had planned to take the family to start a "better, cleaner lifestyle", and her mother died a year later from depression. She was named 'Qiu Yu' cause she was born in autumn, and fish is a symbol of prosperity in china (Qiu Yu = Autumn Fish). Her mom had said "Every autumn, she'll have a plentiful harvest." She now lives with her grandma in an old concrete apartment on the top floor, with no elevator.
Kite: Her kite is a koi, with a heart drawn on it. Since she's only 7, and her grandma doesnt let her go out at night by herself, she flies it from inside her room through the bars of the window. One reason she flies the kite is because she wanted her parents, 'up in the sky', to know she's staying strong (the reason its a koi [fish]), and that she loves and misses them (the heart). The other is so that she can add some light into the sky and let her parents watch the way the city changes, and how much she matures (both physically and mentally) each year~~

since this is my first contest, im not expecting much. if i do end up getting a prize then, well, yay 8D LOL.
btw, that's a blue blankie on her legs ._. she wears black pants. and i gave up on coloring properly after the kite and the qiuyu. ._.;;
