With no ties to any family and no particular loyalty to the island he was born, Jay has been traveling through the regions since the time he was eight-years- old. What had started out as a simple wish to escape the island that fettered him has since escalated into a dream to be one of the greatest Pokémon trainers that the world has ever seen.

When you first meet him Jay appears to be a quiet and tranquil young man, but he is well-known among his friends for his sarcastic attitude and short fuse. He knows how to yell. A lot. Don't take it personally though, yelling at people is one of the unique ways Jay shows he cares. He's also a very straightforward person. Because of his blunt attitude Jay has been described by others as rude or unsympathetic. It's not that he means to be mean, he just doesn't see a need to sugar-coat what already is.

He’s incredibly proud, preferring to lose nearly everything before asking for help from anyone (unless his Pokémon coax him otherwise). He hates people who belittle others (almost as much as he hates school), but more than anything he hates being vulnerable. Needless to say he doesn’t express his feelings a lot; preferring to bottle them up until they inevitably explode. He really likes peach ice cream, comic books, cards, soft drinks and walking with his hands in his pockets. Above all material things though, Jay absolutely loves the ocean.

Jay has a soft spot for younger kids and women (who don't aggravate him). Give him a little while, once Jay warms up to you he can be a fun guy to have around. You'll want him on your side, he never backs down and he will stand by his friends until the end.

FYI: He hates Team Rocket.

Jay’s Pokémon are his life. His concern for their well-being far surpasses any worry he has for himself. His Pokémon keep him going. They push him to keep trying, to keep working to be stronger, to never give up.

Robin ♂
Jay’s first Pokémon doubles as his absolute best friend. While he was still a Poochyena Jay rescued/stole him from his abusive owner. As a result, Robin is incredibly loyal and slightly over-protective. He will almost never leave Jay’s side, not even to get in a poké ball (which he only has to prevent other trainers from catching him).

Harper ♂
Harper was a Dratini when he rescued a nine-year-old Jay after he fell into a deep river. Jay never had to actually try to catch him; Harper chose to come with Jay out of his own free will. Harper is extremely cautious, but never the worried type. Like Robin, he likes to know where Jay is and what he’s doing at all times (just in case he falls into another river or something equally as careless). Harper evolved into a Dragonair many years ago, and has since been trying ceaselessly to evolve into a Dragonite. At one time, Jay and Harper diligently trained alone for days to try and achieve such results, but were disappointed when it simply did not happen. What’s more, Harper cannot seem to learn to fly either, much to his dismay. Feeling guilty that he is not of more use to Jay, Harper tirelessly keeps attempting to evolve.

Flash ♂
Young and inexperienced as he was, Jay caught Flash on a whim because he thought he looked cool. He had no idea at that time how much he would come to regret such a decision. Jay has been trying to get rid of this guy since day one. Flash is the laziest, most oblivious, useless, and unintelligent Pokémon Jay has ever seen. All Flash does is eat, sleep, and get himself into trouble. However, even with all of his faults, whenever it comes down to a time when Jay may actually get away with ditching him, Jay always goes back for him.

Ratchet ♀
Ratchet is a spunky little Raichu that’ll pick a fight with any Pokémon she sees if you don’t watch her close enough. She is actually not Jay’s Pokémon, she belongs to Jay’s good friend Katrina (see BFOI Application [link] ). Katrina is letting Jay borrow her for the UBF for two reasons: One, because he didn’t have any electric Pokémon he could use and two so that Ratchet could keep Jay in check (Ratchet = Jay’s nanny). Katrina’s relationship to Ratchet is like Jay’s relationship to Robin, they’re best friends.

Nugget “Nudge” ♀
Nudge is incredibly timid, but very sweet. Jay met her by accident when he wandered into her den trying to seek refuge from a particularly violent sandstorm in Kanto. He was absolutely speechless when he crawled inside; gold watches, old toys, jewelry, books, televisions, cans, shoes, coins, toilet seats… a giant collection of random junk. Despite their “breaking and entering”, Nudge was actually quite hospitable to Jay. Once the storm was over and Jay left, Nudge fought long and hard with herself, eventually deciding to catch up and join Jay on his journey. To this day she’s still a collector/hoarder; she’ll walk miles for the sole purpose of finding little useless things to bring back with her. Knowing she can’t carry them all with her, she usually ends up giving them away or burying them underground somewhere.

Cap ♂
Jay didn’t attack Cap, he attacked Jay. Robin fought him and after a long and difficult battle, Cap joined the team. Cap is quick to act, slow to think, and incredibly quick tempered, similar to Jay in many ways. Because of how similar they are, Cap and Jay are constantly bickering over stupid little things like which one of them can do the most push-ups (Cap wins, obviously). Despite their disagreements, they both regard each other highly.

Jade ♀
Jay’s newest Pokémon was a gift to him from a Pokémon researcher he met in Hoenn just before making his way to the UBF. She’s still a baby, so Jay and the other Pokémon are EXTREMELY overprotective of her. She absent mindedly tends to wander off and get lost, already she’s gotten lost several times while at the UBF. She’s a feisty little thing, always chirping loudly and trying to be a part of the action. Jay does not let her fight yet, however. He plans to dedicate some time to training her after the UBF is over and done.
