Description
Starbug 1 work-in-progress. The JMC shuttle craft from the UK TV show Red Dwarf. Original model made in Sketchup then imported into 3D Studio Max. for UV mapping. Texture maps made in Photoshop. Here I am aiming to reproduce the original studio model with only a few details added for interest and to fill in where I don't have good reference pictures. Mostly done now - just the tweaks that I will no doubt notice need doing at some point. Get a reduced detail version (I had to drop texture map size & split it into two files just to get under the file size limit) here [link]Related content

My free Sketchup version is available here [link] and here are some good pics of one of the original studio versions [link] (way down the page). What I was lacking is detail under the rear section. A good font for lettering is Eurostile MN Extended Bold. Also here is Dave Sissons model pages [link] selection.htm which is a good reference if you haven't seen it yet.

thank you for the links, you are most kind, but i had found most of those ref pic already from google search
i also found that there are more then one model of this ship and each has there differences, so i had to pick and choose the best bits.

hiya, this is great! I don't suppose I could get a copy of that awesome Starbug texture could I please? I've just made a Jem'Hadar fighter in Sketchup and I'd love to apply the Starbug texture to it.

I don't think it would work so well - the UV map is specific to the bug's spherical shapes. The basic texture material I made in Photoshop using a million (approximately) layers of dirt/grunge, metal & cloudy colours. The dirt around the edges is applied to the edges of the UV mapped sections and mixes in a shadow/ambient occlusion (AO) map I rendered in 3D Studio Max - again specific to the bug model. I'll try and make a more useful tile-able map if you want - check back later, I'll post something when I get a minute spare. While you're waiting try looking on [link] - they have loads of free textures that I have found useful in the past.
