Nope! I just got my first dslr. It is a Nikon D40x. I was having trouble getting the shot because it was very windy and cold. It was a little overexposed so I played with levels and curves to make it really dark. Then I used a gradient map to get the black and white. I always shoot in color and then convert to black and white. I feel I have more control that way. (Sorry that was so detailed.)
