Description This is pretty much based on a scene from one of the Myst novels... always wanted to give it a try.

I kinda thought of my Diarist picture to be a representation of the towers inside:

9 Mio Polygons, about 1000 light sources, no GI
Render Time: 53hrs (4000x2220)
zB + C4D + PS

I’m not laughing, why does god not send angels to record where he place things

He's too busy arranging for slavery, rape and genocide to bother with using these angels of yours for correspondence.

(Sorry you're not laughing.  Life's too short to live without laughter.)

Let us take a moment to celebrate Me.  Thank you, thank you.

Awkward question here: which scene is this supposed to be?

IgnisFerroque In reply to PeterAlexander2014 [2015-05-20 20:12:14 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the late reply. Its just loosely based on the city description in the first book, lots of lights added though, didn't really go for that abandoned look here.

When I first saw the blue version I thought Myst straight away...and you now what a Myst Geek I am. You captured the sprit of Myst nicely here.

Thanks a lot In retrospect id have given it a bit more of a larger scope, further away and more buildings, but my computer could barely handle the scene as it is

I did notice that. Man my rig would struggle badly, you must have a lot of PC resources.

well that does surprise me, efficient modelling and scene building then. All surface procedural?

I have an I7 3770 3.4 GHZ Quad with 8 GB of RAM

IgnisFerroque In reply to ItiseyeMeeSzark [2014-10-31 12:27:09 +0000 UTC]

Im using a mixture of photo textures and procedurals usually, except for rocks and stuff like that; its easier to just go with layered noise shaders and some vertex and terrain maps for that i think.

Nice, although id probably go with more RAM, i could need 16-20 sometimes. At least thats what the virtual memory usage says. Good to be patient
