Afro Americans (is it politically correct to say "Blacks" or not???) were enslaved hundred(s) years ago. And in the XMFC context Darwin and the other kids ARE in the middle of the America with the Civil Rights Movement and racial segregation. So sorry, but Shaw is actually right here

That's true. I wasn't sure if they were trying to show that Shaw was looking at him or if they were just panning the camera onto him. Sorry if I've offended you in any way; I certainly didn't mean to.

Naa, not offended. Just annoyed at the um, discussion, that was going on over on youtube in the comments on a video of this clip. Some really weird crap was being said, but mostly it was people screaming at each other that the movie was/wasn't racist and calling each other racist.
Personally, I just thought it was pretty obvious the camera was meant to show where Shaw was looking when he said that.
And, as an writer, if I wrote a character who was racist/sexist/homophobic, and had him or her do and say racist/sexist/homophobic things, I would hope that my readers wouldn't automatically assume I was racist/sexist/homophobic, especially if that character was the villain (anyone else think that word is spelled really weird?

I certainly don't think having a prejudiced character makes a person prejudiced. I guess I (and the other people who have been having these discussions, since it's not just me, after all) just didn't find the cinematography that obvious. Sorry about people on youtube being jerks. They do seem to do that an awful lot.
