"Those guys.... they fight for a just cause but.... the first time you came across them, they will make your blood freeze they are frightning their aren't that good to... have friendly looks but then it's because you mostly encounter their military forces, if you have the chance to get inside their society they are.... actually a quite interesting group"
- Gaal'ack Mochave
the MLA or Machine Liberation Army a militant faction voted to protect save and assist sentient machines of any form... and punish the ones that harm or hunt them down, their military forces are quite prominent as they take quite seriously the protecting the rights of machine part of the "doctrine", their society is rather open even it's hidden below the rather thick scary skin of their military power.

This is quite intriguing. I actually have a faction that I have been thinking about for about 2 years that I use in a Halo AU called the Intergalactic Stratocracy, which have a similar modus operandi to the MLA. They are the decedents of the escaped remnants of an Ancient Hominid Empire that got destroyed by the Forerunners and hid and expanded outside of the galaxy, their near-annihilation and knowledge of greater threats in the universe making them a militaristic and obsessively-vigilant faction that is armed to the teeth in absolutely everything and see situations with the lens of Murphy's law and always make numerous contingencies, but they are trying to safeguard sentient life in the galaxy and hope to lead life into a more peaceful and prosperous existence for all, but their meritocratic philosophy demands that they will do everything and anything to remain the most powerful group in known space not by limiting others, but by making themselves better. They also ally and assist with any alien civilization they come across that they can convince to voluntarily join them in alliance, and the factions can run independently, they just need to be willing to share or sell tech developments to the Stratocracy and assist in wartime. It's more like NATO than a traditional empire of vassal states. They also use AI forces extensively.
The difference is that you have more experience making up interesting original factions.
