You do realize the straight-pull bolt-action design isn't that uncommon, right? Other straight-pulls include the Winchester-Lee, the Blaser 93, the Steyr Mannlicher M95 and the Swiss K31.
They're not as popular as rotating manual bolt-action rifles due to factors like relative unreliability in dirty environments, like the trenches of the Great War. Of course, elsewhere they're free to take off but are usurped by rotating manual bolts in most military applications, which is why they're relatively unknown, but not "almost forgotten."

Your point is blunted by the fact that Battlefield 3 will throw (hell, it probably has) the term into tons of gamers' faces. They're going to wonder if a straight-pull actually works that way. Bingo, underappreciated weapon action will become more recognized. Never underestimate the power of the media, especially games; it's how Gran Turismo introduced the entire world to cars like the Impreza and the Lancer Evo.
