When I think of Morrowind I typically think, "It's a shame the graphics haven't aged well. I wish I could get MGSO to play on my computer." Then I replay it (vanilla) because, ultimately, it's the best of the bunch (in my humble opinion), and sometimes I stop and I look around. I take in the sights and sounds. I look at the emperor parasols surrounded by heather and golden kanet, the city of Balmora at night lit by countless lanterns, Vivec at dawn with the pink sky blooming overhead, and I listen to 'Nerevar Rising' and 'Over the Next Hill,' and I think, "Even now, after all these years, this game is beautiful."

You've captured it well in this screenshot.

I think that it's the same thing that makes art in general "work". Like sometimes you spend hours to paint something, go into details but just cannot make the picture "sing". And sometimes you coin an atmosphere with a few strokes. And I am not talking about tricks and techniques but something intrinsic to art. The thing I want to say is that it ultimately matters little how detailed and well-executed the parts are in the picture, when there is harmony in the whole. Same in Morrowind. Despite textures aging to be blurry, models- blocky and special effect- schematic, Morrowind still has its "lighting congruence", its breathing atmosphere and its unique "flow" in design. Eventually it makes you forget about the flaws in particulars and simply believe. Well, that's my opinion, anyways)
